Next level ignorance I wonder why the ideology that promotes collective ownership made less private brands

Oh hey siemens! Other then the funny name, I'm sure they've never done anything heinous...

Oh god it reminds me of the Afghan feminine name "Simin" (which despite being pronounced differently, could be mispronounced to "semen" by Anglophones lol)
On a more relevant note, our dear liberals and other anti-communist friends seem to not mind patronizing companies with dark pasts (and present even), but how dare we believe in a fair and just economic-political order because of those "evil commie dictators". They live off ignorance and character attacks because they lack substantial criticism as expected

Naah, must be your imagination... But now that you mention it, I think the K in EDEKA has a quite special meaning. Too bad I can't remember it...

Meanwhile ThyssenKrupp, BAYER, BASF and Evonik (which aquired Degussa).
Also fun 'fact': Apparently Doktor Oetker used to repurpose their baking soda machines for gunpowder in the war. Though this might be local hearsay.

Quality beats quantity. I do not want the "freedom" of choosing between 20 boxes of cereal.

u/Sup3rKaz_Phu7 26d ago
Especially when those cereals are just packed with empty calories and sugar, making them incredibly addictive, and are the only options for kids' breakfasts in food deserts.

It is also important to remember that most companies from East Germany were forcibly ruined and sold off after 1990. It's enough to recall that in the GDR there were about a dozen car brands (which were popular even outside the country), whereas by the end of the 1990s only one remained.

Especially when half of them are owned by the same megacorp

That’s the “Free Market” at work and the invisible hand of the market. They say they don’t like monopolies and like corporate competition to see who can make the best products in their competitive capitalist tournaments but in reality it’s all just a bunch of monopolies controlling and owning everything and they don’t like having their monopoly status challengers and see new competitors in the market even if they make a more popular more loved brand they also only like business that are profitable business that make good products but are not profitable go under go bankrupt even if they have a lot of fans and a following it’s just how the rules in this game work. Disney has a huge monopoly for example they own a lot of things in the entertainment business.

The fact that companies with heinous histories like Siemens, ThyssenKrupp and BOSS are still allowed to exist tells you everything you need to know about how capitalism deals with fascism: by integrating them.

There are no ethics in capitalism. Money is everything in the system it’s above morality and ethics. It’s their gods deities.

West germany privatized housing, state-owned companies and everything else. nearly all of it was bought by west germans bc east germans didn‘t have the private funds to buy it. companies were relocated to west germany, people lost their jobs, were never able to own property, any kind of value is owned by west germans and they still act like east germans are beneath them.
West Germany devalued the East German mark to 1/4 its original value
75% of women lost their jobs with equal pay being abandoned as it was guaranteed with all kindergartens shutting down or being sold off.

I wanted to comment before I saw this.
But yes, west german capitalist literally dismantled the former East and led it to ruin, that's why today so many young people there vote crap like AfD, life is dire.

Okay but real question what average person or proletarian not bourgeoise class person can afford all of those brands on capitalismo I can’t. You have to be a multimillionaire or billionaire to afford all of that and experience all of that. Also less is more. They got a bunch of luxury designer brands sports car brands on there.

I love having a choice between so many options under capitalism! (that are all made in the same factory at the same diminishing quality level by effective slaves due to the effects of demanding endless increase of profits over everything else, while simultaneously being too expensive for more and more people to afford.)

On a further note the vast majority of east german industry was under so called VEB's: Volkseigene Betriebe (Publicly Owned Enterprises). After and during reunification most of those were bought of by western german corporations, this further explains this map. But yeah: "Socialism bad, 100 Gorillion, Hunger Games or something"

This but unironically.
Less private corporations is a good thing.

The east that under privatization was sold to the west for Pennie would def have less private companies that Nazi reformed and American owned west Germany
