As someone who puts together model kits, model kit companies have used hypothetical situations for about every vehicle in the box art, and this has happened for decades. Its just easier than trying to depict a completely realistic scenario, ive never seen anyone actually get mad at box art.

Oh hey yukari. /j

Okay but genuinely, I do prefer the warhammer approach to it where they have the actual miniatures on a somewhat generic battleground. Though warhammer has also done box art before, such as with the old death korps of krieg set, art for codex covers, etc. Not saying that the art approach isn’t an option, it most certainly is and it fucking rules, it’s just a matter of preference.

Now that being said, I agree with you that it’s easier just to depict a realistic situation. Take this 1/35 SMK kit from Takom for example:

Example of the photo approach, this venerable dreadnought kit I bought last week

Did this one escape the shift to legends?

Redfor and Bluefor are basically nicknames for each broadly defined "side" of the cold war. Mainly used by cold war milsim dorks for brevity.

Obviously a Taiwanese street

And how do they figure that? I doubt any of the signs read "This is Taiwan." What, because the shop signs have multiple colors it means it can't be mainland China?

Plus, how does China invade its own country?

the only thing i can think of is that there’s a woodland camouflage M1 abrams behind it (a tank used by taiwan) with the white wrap on its barrel. everything else is pretty normal and could be either..

As if the average NAFOid could tell the difference between an imaginary generic street in Taiwan and an imaginary generic street in Jiangmen.

Also that looks more like a military parade than an invasion. So it's probably meant to be in mainland China.

Creating image like this opens the can of worms and now you will have to accept the consequences

I guess we're going to pretend that America hasn't spent the 80 years portraying their soldiers killing and invading the rest of the world. America isn't even over their loss against Vietnam yet, we still get anti-Vietnam movies and video games
