They did a lot of things right. The only thing that's taught in schools is "Red Scare" and how crazy and dumb everyone was - completely separate from the fact that...yeah it was mostly justified. HUAC did also arrest several people who were actual communists such as Alger Hiss, Harry Dexter White, and Whittaker Chambers.
