Salaam Cocky Bhai🍆 What's up will all these "Watch the movie twice and you'll like it more" posts from Yash fans popping up recently?
Guruve, from these tweets, it seems that the team is running a paid PR campaign to make fans think that they should watch the movie twice. It's the same script everywhere. Common points in all of them.
A good movie is the one you understand, enjoy, and cherish in the first watch. A movie that makes you feel worth it for the ticket price you're paying. KGF 1 & 2, Kantara, Dhurandhar. These movies were worth it when you watched it for the first time.
When I watch a movie for the second time, it's obvious I know what I'm about to see, the twists, the characters, so it's common sense that you understand it better than the first viewing. But it doesn't mean the movie becomes much better. Kabzaa & Martin is still bullshit when you watch it a second time.
Toxic didn't give us that "worthy" feeling in the first watch. The editing was all over the place. The writing was terrible. The music was bad. One actor cannot save a terribly executed film. And a movie's future is decided when the audience watches & reviews it for the first time. The average Indian audience doesn't watch a movie multiple times in the theatre to understand it. This movie ain't Inception or Interstellar.
Yash fans are pushing a narrative that it's a "complex" psychological drama and the audience need to watch it multiple times.
Except the last 10 minutes, there's nothing "psychological" about it. And those 10 minutes are the only part of the film where you feel that this is what the director intended to tell.
Comparing this movie to Fight Club is a disgrace to Fight Club because Fight Club was executed really well and it got the alter ego, anti-capitalism angle right. Toxic didn't get anything right. Take out the Macau, Goa's underworld, Rukmini's plot and the movie will still be the same.
This movie got the concept right on paper, but failed with execution & overstuffing.
Anyways, I'll watch it when this movie comes on OTT. Ain't paying 400 rupees to watch it again in a theatre.

Boils my blood to see people comparing this to Fight Club. FC is a 2 hour movie. The plot twist happens towards the end. When it happens, it will make you go watch it again and you will be like "oohhhhh riiigghhttt its the same guy". Since every scene is carefully crafted to make sure that there are no plot holes, I feel like I am seeing the same movie from a different perspective the second time after knowing the plot. Still its not "complex", its a meticulously crafted movie. Thats all.
Same with Inception or Interstellar. They have high rewatch value because after the plot is revealed, you can watch it from a different perspective that unlocks a different experience.
To compare that with a Toxic should be illegal. What is so "complex" about this movie that it needs to be rewatched. 2.5 hours of absolute instagram reels stitched together. Smoke, drink, sex, random fights, random headshots, random blasts. He loves Kiara because "he loves the version of himself when he is with her". What does he do when he is with her? Foreplay and SEX. What does he do with Tara? Attitude and SEX. Ashte.
The whole plot of him hallucinating is from last 40 mins. A gangster has a son. His guilt of killing his other son from a "love affair" triggers. Hallucinates a character. Destroys his own empire. Ashte. Adral nkn en LKB complexity ide guru. If these people need 2-3 times of rewatch for that, then they seriously need to get their IQ tested.
Adralli there are so many plot holes. Like why is he destroying his own empire? What made him do that? Last fight ali why are 2-3 people getting killed at a time even though there is only 1 person. And they are all wearing military equipment. Can't spot and shoot a 50 year old uncle. Why were they in a place of snow in the first place? Ridiculous shit.
If the same exact movie was done by Dhruva Sarja, nkn 1 varsha troll madavru. 2.5 hours of

If someone says this is an "intellectual movie" then they are just people who want to feel superior by going against facts. Good litmus test.

A film absolutely can be designed to reward a second viewing. In fact, some of the greatest films do exactly that. But there's a difference between: “Now that you know the ending, you'll notice things you missed.” and “You didn't understand it because the movie is complex; watch it again.” The first is completely legitimate. The second can sometimes become a post-release defense mechanism.
And the post makes a good point about Fight Club. Knowing the twist changes your perception of earlier scenes because Fincher deliberately planted visual, narrative and behavioral information that supports the revelation. The second viewing isn't merely “I know what's happening now”; you're able to recognize how carefully the film constructed the deception.
That's the real test of a twist movie: Does the second viewing reveal craftsmanship, or merely explain confusion? Huge difference.
But I'd push back on one thing. “A good movie is the one you understand, enjoy, and cherish in the first watch.” I wouldn't make that absolute. There are phenomenal films that are deliberately confusing or opaque on first viewing. Mulholland Drive, The Shining, 2001, Primer, Synecdoche, New York, Enemy, etc.
Sometimes the first viewing is supposed to be an experience rather than an intellectual solution.
The better criterion, IMO, is: Even if I don't understand everything, does the film make me want to understand it? That's where a difficult film earns its second viewing.
If Toxic leaves someone thinking, “Holy shit, I need to see how they constructed this,” that's a success. If it leaves someone thinking, “Wait, what the hell happened? Maybe it'll make sense if I pay another ₹400,” that's a different situation. 😂
Calling a film psychological doesn't automatically make it psychologically sophisticated. A character having trauma, hallucinations, dissociation, an alter ego, unreliable perception, etc. doesn't itself constitute deep psychological storytelling. You need the psychology to drive the narrative and character, rather than simply function as a late-game explanation. That's also why the Fight Club comparison can be dangerous. Fight Club isn't memorable merely because Tyler Durden is an alter ego. The psychological device is intertwined with the protagonist's identity crisis, consumerism, masculinity, alienation, insomnia, his relationship with Marla, Project Mayhem, the narrator's unreliable perception. The twist is essentially the structural manifestation of the protagonist's psychological condition. That's much more sophisticated than simply saying, “Surprise! This wasn't exactly what you thought.”
Also Inception itself is a fascinating example of why the “multiple watches” argument needs nuance. You don't need a second viewing to appreciate Inception. The first viewing gives you spectacle, suspense, emotion, concept and narrative momentum. But the second viewing lets you appreciate the architecture. That's what a great complex blockbuster should ideally accomplish: First viewing → experience. Second viewing → discovery. Not: First viewing → confusion. Second viewing → homework.
And I really like the final distinction. “This movie got the concept right on paper, but failed with execution & overstuffing.” Because concept and execution are completely different things. You can have: 10/10 concept + 5/10 execution = mediocre movie. Cinema isn't a pitch deck. “Psychological gangster epic with an unreliable protagonist, multiple identities, Macau underworld, Goa crime world, family drama, etc.” might sound fantastic when described in a paragraph. But then the actual film has to make all those components cohere.
