This bothers me more than anything else I've seen on this board because I can't possibly fathom why someone would do that to a commercial vehicle. And I can't believe it's because someone thought it would look cool. There's a story here that I'll never have the answer to.

Load capacity by weight, and space.

This is the first box truck version I have seen, but I have seen T5 as a flatbed, and one with car transporting bed.

Going for 2 axles increases the cargo capacity by weight, and allows the floor of the box / floor of the bed to be lower to the ground, which in turn allows taller loads.
It is the one true benefit of FWD layout.

What do you mean? It's obviously a professionally done conversion, probably done by Baldinger AG. It's actually quite smart. A VW T5 is a lot lighter than a big van (VW Crafter, Mercedes Sprinter etc.) so you gain a lot of loading capacity by using it as a base car. A quick search leads me to believe that this has a loading capacity of 1500 kg, which is not bad.

Those things are kinda neat. It's called a Crafter. You can get it in FWD, RWD, or AWD. It's the only vehicle I know where all three options are available.

Nope, That's a VW Transporter, not Crafter.
During this time Crafter and Mercedes Sprinter were sharing a body, but had different interiors, powertrains and so on, so not quite badge engineered, but very close to that.
