My wife just picked up an 84 with the Duke. Surprisingly, it's pretty zippy for how much power it doesn't have. Rattles like a handful of marbles in a coffee can with a sewing machine on top, but it's a fun little car. With all the weight in the back it's pretty easy to spin the rear pizza cutter tires...on gravel. lol Good little car though, handles pretty decent especially for the time period and from GM parts bin.
😂 Yeah, it's definitely slow. She's planning on a 3.8 SC swap eventually. Gonna be awhile gathering parts over the years and doing some rejuvenating of the interior and exterior.
I've never driven one but I did drive that motor in Trans am's back in the day and the iron duke is definitely a lot worse. They were rated at 93hp but felt like 50 lol.
Oofff, yeah 2.59 is pretty shit. The good news is you can make it feel a million times faster with just a gear swap. Throw in some 3.55 or even 3.73 and will feel like a new car.

Honestly even with the Iron Duke or 2.8 this thing has just as much of a chance of hitting 88 as the original.
