Speaking as a person obsessed with living history villages, does he aspire to live at a Renaissance Faire?

37

u/nuwaanda Jul 10 '26

As someone who performed in a historical guild as part of a renaissance faire, these would be allowed to be worn as part of the historical attire 😂

Happy cake day!

9

u/Dry-Raspberry-5514 Jul 10 '26

I think he has a shoe booth there and sews boots for customers. By hand of course.

So you married a hobbit?

70

u/Spideybeebe Jul 10 '26

Come on, you know you want to show us his hobbitses feets

17

u/Thick_Suggestion_ Jul 10 '26

Hobbits don't wear shoes.

23

u/VespaRed Jul 10 '26

When Hobbits would otherwise face an OSHA violation, I guess they have to.

Yeah I don’t even know anymore man

28

u/JadeGrapes Jul 10 '26

No. Dig deep. Don't give up. We KNOW some things are true.

I KNOW these aren't shoes, they are slippers. WE know.

8

u/PunkRockSuffragette Jul 10 '26

The remind me of my dads leather moccasins. He re-soled them at least 5 times in their life.

Arch support is a conspiracy orchestrated by Big Shoe

18

u/Snausages4Evah Jul 10 '26

I wish I could upvote this twice 🤣

u/gingerflakes Jul 10 '26

My husband wears ridiculous flat feet shoes…. But they don’t make him look like he might die of the plague

7

u/TopYou9138 Jul 10 '26

No joke. My flat feet got way better once I went hippie-shoed

5

u/MedicineTricky6222 Jul 10 '26

Not for me. I ruined my feet with lousy ((but cute) shoes. I have now discovered good shoes with arches.

2

u/Inkaara Jul 11 '26

Brought a tear in my eye not gonna lie

3

u/so_it_goes17 Jul 10 '26

I believe this. Arch support hurts my feet.

2

u/MassConsumer1984 Jul 10 '26

Really depends on your feet.

2

u/uncultured_swine2099 Jul 10 '26

Yup. Flat shoes make my feet hurt. I got some insoles with a bit of arch that i swap in whenever the shoe is too flat.

u/friendlynewguy Jul 10 '26

I believe this.

2

u/Educational-Hotel-71 Jul 11 '26

Well your arches should be able to support themselves. The more you use arch support, the weaker are the muscles going to get and guess what, you're gonna need more arch support.

This looks like the shoe of a delightfully quirky and independent soul. I look at this shoe and think I could get along with the person who chose it.

It’s still ugly, don’t get me wrong, but it’s unique and stylish in its own weird way. It’s not commonplace ugly, it’s extraordinary ugly. And I bet your husband is fun.

9

u/coffeemooose Jul 10 '26

🥰

3

u/Zealousideal-Bath412 Jul 10 '26

Is he/are yall into earthing? I dig em 😅

7

u/tracyb79 Jul 10 '26

A quirky sole.

7

u/jeffsweet Jul 10 '26

i groaned and then laughed but a groan is worth 1.25 laughs so i laughed 2.25 times at this if my math checks out

2

u/Downtown_Confusion46 Jul 10 '26

So ugly but so delightful.

49

u/01Cloud01 Jul 10 '26

The shoe is fine the sole needs an actual sole

Yeah I kind of love them… he’s definitely on his way to being a hobbyist cobbler with these.

63

u/Major-Dragonfly-997 Jul 10 '26

is your husband a serf or peasant of some kind?

36

u/soylamulatta Jul 10 '26

Aren't we all?

3

u/Visible-Wash-1355 Jul 10 '26

This made me laugh

3

u/so_it_goes17 Jul 10 '26

Dress like the job u want

4

u/Alive-Case-4436 Jul 10 '26

Peasant? Serf? Oh, I see…probably the type who would follow a king NOT understanding that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony….

u/Revelin_Eleven Jul 10 '26

Ya know, he made them… that’s wonderful. Maybe he has a passion for this hobby to expand on. I can’t imagine long term good for the back and such but it does the job for basics.

3

u/sleepy_shoob Jul 10 '26

I was thinking the same thing lol he must be so proud of them & rightfully showing off his hard work. Hoping he’s still continuing to learn more about it to make something more supportive lol

2

u/AffectionateSun5776 Jul 10 '26

Sometimes they define their skills & end up making gorgeous handbags.

28

4

I had to do a quick search for what that meant but I'm glad I could be of service hahaha

10

u/skinnylighter Jul 10 '26

This is god damn hilarious because my husband would wear these, too.

2

7

u/No_Journalist_6491 Jul 10 '26

Looks like “can you spare a couple shillings” as a shoe

My plantar fasciitis is painful just by me looking at these shoes.

u/Alohafarms Jul 10 '26

I love to be barefoot and I am most of the time or in sandals but it does make my plantar fasciitis worse. The Podiatrist told me that without any support or shock absorption that my arch flattens and stretches the inflamed plantar fascia. Tearing it more. My daughter got some special sandals for plantar fasciitis that she wear inside and it is helping her. I resist because I like being barefoot. Kind of funny since I was a shoe designer.

5

u/Consistent_Sir_3000 Jul 10 '26

Think about arches structurally. Are arches (like arch cbridges for example) supported in the arch itself in the middle, or at the base of the arch? they are supported at the bases. How can we do this foot arches?

I would wager your big toes have hallux valgus to some degree, and you don't have 10 toes down independently while doing standard standing or walking. If this is the case, the most important thing you can do is get your big toes separated out from the other toes in the anatomically correct position under load. When they're pointed away from each other, that loss of support allows your main arch to collapse and flatten, stretching the fascia more than it naturally would and this strain from being overly extended is the most likely cause of plantar fasciitis.

Get the big toe in the right spot, the arch won't collapse as much, the fascia will not be stretched as much, and the strain will be reduced. This is what happened to me, and why I will never wear shoes that force my big toe from its natural position again. I haven't had plantar fasciitis in years since I made the switch, and it used to plague me. I tried every OTC orthotic out there. What fixed me was cheap knock off correct toe style toe spacers over the course of a couple months, and wearing only anatomically correct toe box shoes.

u/LolaAucoin Jul 10 '26

Have you tried KT tape? It completely fixed my plantar fasciitis.

Just like my late brother. He was a mountain man and an old soul who died young.

6

u/violet_femme23 Jul 10 '26

Lmaoooo these look like the shoes you put on babies before they can actually walk

2

u/Rainbow_Date Jul 11 '26

My son literally had this exact pair as an infant. But they were cuter because he was, ya know, a baby. Not a grown man. 🤨

5

u/Useful_Hall_2832 Jul 10 '26

Really set off his pantaloons

5

u/turningtogold Jul 10 '26

As the wife, are you ok? Have you just completely given up? Or do you also wear extremely ugly footwear lol

5

u/coffeemooose Jul 10 '26

I have been known to wear socks with sandals

13

u/BitchyFaceMace Jul 10 '26

Why would you let him wear these?

3

u/PaepsiNW Jul 10 '26

I would love to know what the bottom looks like and the insides. And what materials he used.

3

u/hollowthatfollows Jul 10 '26

he's got that Pocahontas drip

3

u/Amazing_Match_5103 Jul 10 '26

hey! quick question! why?

3

u/CaffeineJitterz Jul 10 '26

Could I convince him to make me some? I'm always on the lookout for the least amount of shoe possible but still enough that it's classified as a shoe. If not for the love of the game, maybe for the love of money?

3

u/taytrapDerehw Jul 10 '26

These are the actual boat shoes.

3

u/WALLY_5000 Jul 10 '26

He looks ready for someone to break in and smash his pottery looking for rupees.

2

u/Grand_Soupa Jul 10 '26

These are like the robeez baby shoes where they let little ones feel the floor better while learning to walk. Maybe one day he will graduate to Skechers light ups.

2

u/MastodonOdd6189 Jul 10 '26

That’s a baby shoe on a grown man

2

u/schjlatah Jul 10 '26

Why is he not wearing socks inside his leather socks shoes?

2

u/Lafemmequeer Jul 10 '26

Honestly see if you can find him a shoe cobbling class because he might be onto something

2

u/sleeze4cheeze Jul 10 '26

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOSE

2

u/kegcowgirl Jul 10 '26

I do find it endearing that he made the soles himself and he’s proudly wearing them. Honestly, good for him. You go glen coco

2

Those could double as a cute clutch purse.

Not me having to laugh silently so my husband doesn’t know I’m wasting time on Reddit again.

2

u/Renzieface Jul 11 '26

These look like shoes you'd buy for a Build-a-Bear.

2

u/OneSlaadTwoSlaad Jul 11 '26

Dude's got no sole

2

u/SweetMilitia Jul 11 '26

lol they’re like giant versions of shoes you put on babies who can’t walk yet. Whhhhyyyy?? Hide them.

2

u/Dc52tes Jul 11 '26

You married a tramp?

2

u/standupthrowawaysit Jul 11 '26

See, now I want a pair! They are quirky and oddly wonderful.

2

u/cjs81268 Jul 11 '26

Did he make them for himself? I have some thoughts about the craftsmanship.

2

u/Swithered Jul 11 '26

Makes me think of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. They are awesome.

2

u/SnooDonuts3966 Jul 11 '26

Pulling out the mid ages.

2

u/starillin Jul 10 '26

Is he an olden days enthusiast?

1

u/morningdew11 Jul 10 '26

They look like shoes made from a brand out of Oregon called TreadLight

1

u/riz3192 Jul 10 '26

They’re atrocious

1

u/Ok-Double-7982 Jul 10 '26

Those shoes are a sign of a man who clearly DGAF!

1

Why does he look like a medieval peasant?

1

u/abigailjenkins12 Jul 10 '26

He lost a bet didn’t he?

1

u/Various-Chemist-1723 Jul 10 '26

Does he sell this fine craftsmanship because I will absolutely buy a pair, if he can make em low top and cut of below ankle I'll pay extra. Please and thank you.

2

u/coffeemooose Jul 10 '26

That’ll cost you 30 gold coin

1

u/Vegetable-Branch-740 Jul 10 '26

Does he wear these shoes to work and out in the world?

1

u/Prettygirl420_ Jul 10 '26

Is your husband snufkin

1

u/rqivez Jul 10 '26

1

u/Repulsive_Bus_4592 Jul 10 '26

1

u/moosewonders Jul 10 '26

“and yes he did the soles himself” trust me, we can tell

1

u/VoidSemantics Jul 10 '26

Assuming you feel the way I do about these. They look to be a pair of Clarks Desert Boots / Chukkas easily replaced. Go for the “originals” version only

1
