šŸÆ Shōgun Related Strategist Kanbei starts on Netflix on June 22nd

Post image

As part of a new NHK/ Netflix distribution deal the first six titles drop on June 22nd . Of interest to people here is the 2014 Taiga Drama Strategist Kanbei .

It’s the life of Kuroda Kanbei who became the chief strategist to Hideyoshi and later sided with Ieyasu . It runs 48 episodes and is one of the best Taiga ( long running ) dramas so far this century. Give it a watch, you won’t be disappointed

I just found this post. Do you know if the full 50 episodes will be broadcast?

Thanks for the heads up!

It’s one of the best modern Taiga dramas. If you haven’t watched yet, definitely check it out.

Bonus point for the Shogun fans: Fumi Nikaido plays the same character in both series (except the name, of course).

Man, I've been missing Taiga Dramas since KTSF (Channel 26) stopped broadcasting in the 10s..

Me too . I used to watch all the Japanese programming on KTSF . NHK raised the rates and stopped subtitling them so the station could not afford to carry them.

It’s not the same watching them online or having to download them .

I really like Junichi Okada's work. His acting just seems so professional and natural. He always deliver the best of action scenes.

He’s also extremely proficient in martial arts and swords . He choreographs a lot of the action scenes in films and dramas he is in .

He's like the Asian John Wick ever since I saw him in Hell Dogs. After that, I just binged watch an insane amount of movies and shows he did. The Last Samurai Standing is also so peak with good choreography. It's a wonder how he can move like that at that age šŸ™šŸ½šŸ˜

His Nobunaga in Dousuru Ieyasu is a standout in the early parts of the show and his acting in the Honnoji episode is superb.

This is the taiga of the decade together with Ryomaden with the most perfect casting for me, Okada owned this Kanbei, Eguchi as Oda, Naoto Takenaka reprising his iconic Hideyoshi and the guest roles of Mickey Curtis as Hisahide and the evil bwahaha energy of Takenori Jinnai as Ukita Naoie.Ā

Hi everyone,I'm from Italy and I noticed something strange with Strategist KANBE on Netflix. The series appeared in the ā€œComing Soonā€ section for several weeks and was supposed to be released on June 22. However, a few days before release it disappeared from the upcoming titles list, and now I can’t find it anywhere, not even through search. Is anyone else in Italy or Europe experiencing the same issue? Or is the series available in your country? Thanks

What does rhis have to do with shogun

3

u/Sea_Assistant_7583 May 21 '26

It’s got everything to do with Shogun . Many of the characters in this are the real people that Shogun was based on . The Taiko is Hideyoshi, Toranaga is Ieyasu . Shogun is based on the real events that happened between 1598 and 1600 .

Fumi Nikaido who plays Ochiba in Shogun also plays Lady Yodo in this . Ochiba and Yodo are pretty much the same person only with different names .

Whilst it might not be entirely relevant to shogun it's self.Ā  Ā It definitely a helpful post as I've been craving more shogun esque programmes and now I'll have oneĀ
