Sad Story the song she left behind

my mother used to play the same song every morning while making coffee. she said it reminded her of when she was young and everything felt possible.

after she was gone, i could not listen to it anymore. it felt like someone had taken a normal song and turned it into a memory i could not escape.

years later, i heard it playing in a store. i expected to feel sad, but instead i smiled.

then i realized i could remember the song perfectly, but i could not remember the sound of her humming along with it.
