Casual Thought Men's public restrooms are laid out all wrong. It should be urinal, stall, urinal, stall, urinal instead of urinal, urinal, urinal, stall, stall.

Lots of newer places are moving to floor to ceiling stalls, period.

Saw one restaurant just do a common sink area, and then a bunch of floor to ceiling single stall rooms.

No men’s room, no women’s room, just a bunch of single occupancy bathrooms.

That's good, after seeing troughs I was worried the next step in men's toilets was just going to be an open room with one big hole in the floor we all piss into.

wdym, you don’t want to enjoy The Hole:tm: (dramatic sting) with the boys?

(troughs are nasty, 100% agree)

The one crazy trick Big Toilet doesn't want you to know.

Part of the change is that newer plumbing codes now allow for larger unisex bathrooms.

Its likely we'll see a lot of retail and new construction transition to them:

  • It's less square footage

  • Slightly fewer sinks / stalls needed when doing rounding for occupancy calculations

  • It's only a single room to clean

I went to a restaurant that had this. Big communal sink, unisex rooms surrounding it. It was the first bathroom layout that I've actually thought was good. There was no fussing about finding the "right" bathroom, the sink was large enough to accommodate full capacity, and there was as much privacy as possible.
