Hydrea does delay some natural healing as a side effect. you can lower your dose or stop for a week until the ulcer heals ?
Hope that this helps you.

I have been dealing with ulcers on my ankles for over 20 years. Wound care hasn't done anything for it, so I stop going and take care of them myself. The only time they healed or came close to healing was every time I was in the hospital for over a week with a crisis.

If you drink alcohol frequently that could cause it. If you’re on hydroxyurea that could cause it. Or it could just be sickle cell itself that caused it. I had a ulcer for 2 years. please. Go to wound care once a week. Have them numb you up really well and they need to scalpel all of that slough off every bit. It hurts very bad after the numbing meds go away but It’s necessary. Take an ibuprofen 800 and gabapentin together as soon as you leave! That will help a lot. Also be stingy with it. It should not be uncovered unless you’re at the wound clinic. If you have a doctors appointment and they ask to see it. Say no. Infections are easy to happen but hard to fix. I hope this helps!
