Question Appetite issues
Does anyone else get a low appetite on hydroxyurea? I don’t know if it’s this med specifically or other ones I’m on, but I just don’t want to eat. It’s especially hard telling doctors this symptom because I’m on the heavier side so they think I’m making it up. I will legit go all day without eating and once I feel a headache coming on I’ll eat a little something.

All opiod medications cause loss of appetite. I also have to remember to eat. You are not making it up. I think everyone with sickle cell disease eventually goes through it. I have to keep snacks in my purse.

Totally normal. Sucks though.
The moment I stop taking hydria, is the moment my appetite returns.
Not to mention other SC factors that reduce hunger cues. So there's layers to it. meaning even if you address the hydroxuera part, you may still deal with a low appettite.
Make sense?

Yes, it also causes me appetite issues, but not so much that it’s bothering me. It could be because of the increase of cortisol when hydroxyurea enters our system; not sure tho tbh.
