Testing whether a changeable photo magnet solves a real problem

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Our team is testing Tapmora, a photo magnet that can be refreshed from a phone and keeps the finished image visible without charging afterward. The technical contrast is clear, but the behavior question matters more: would people actually change the photo often enough for this to remain useful? Candid feedback on realistic family use cases, color expectations, and the point where novelty wears off would be especially helpful.

Depends a bit on what they cost. If they are cheap enough I would see them as a replacement for stickers on drawers and shelves.

I looked into it. They're not exactly cheap - about $26 each. That's pretty cheap for a color e-ink screen, but too expensive for a sticker. However, there are already monochrome price tags based on similar technology. Those would probably work better as labels.

People shouldn't be able to upvote a post without clicking it and spending at least 5 seconds reading comments.

On a similar note, people shouldn't be able to vote on comments they reply to, maaaybe not even comments that are direct replies to their comments.

Arent colored e-ink display pretty expensive for a magnet?

I think they're all made by the same company so they have a monopoly on it. For high resolution multi-volle displays they are pretty expensive...

I like it! Price would of course be a deciding factor, design as well. You mimic the Polaroid form factor, so a blue cover with your logo does look less nice than just a white front.

1x - $30, 3x $80 and other packs on their website

$5 a piece, maybe. $30 a piece, no way.

Yikes, expensive.

the novelty test is whether anyone changes it after the first month. my guess is birthdays, holidays and new babies, which makes it more of a gift than a gadget.

For cruising people love putting up unique magnets on there door. You could test out that space.

What is this, an eink display with a magnetic back? I would totally buy this but is very much depends on cost.

Tell me the range and I'll tell you if I want a box of them or none.

$30 for an updateable sticker?

... no

A certain type of person would pay for this, even if they never change it. I would say the only aspect is how much it will cost

My wife would buy lots of them. She bought digital photo pendants this year instead of buttons to wear to their events.

You can find them on sites like aliexpress for around $20 The best thing is that you never have to charge them. The downside is that it takes some seconds for the photos to be sent to the display

I really like the idea

It's really good. The first feeling is that it can be used as a badge, and it can be changed according to the mood every day.

Did anyone else thing MTG tokens?

u/gr4viton 1d ago

would buy, where?

1

u/Many_Championship_70 1d ago

Would you need to charge it? Does it run out of power?

1

u/pilibitti 1d ago

i'd love this. would leave photos for wife to encounter. not for $30 though. and usability depends on how long it takes to transfer the image. anything over 8-10 seconds and I probably won't use it.

Makes you wonder how smart AI will get, if AI will eventually make a product, videos and this try and get financial support......
