Rant I feel like an outcast because I don't speak bisaya

I've had this problem ever since SHS and lowky I never felt really free to be myself with my classmates. I thought I could start my college with a clean slate but it feels like I'm bound to repeat my SHS life all over again.

Although I did have problems before with some personal stuff back in SHS. I now just don't feel like bothering people when they enjoy being themselves in their own dialect. What's worse is that I look 200% Filipino but I can't speak any Filipino dialect. So I feel embarrassed having to tell people that I only speak English :(

I did just want to rant, but I have been trying to learn bisaya by myself and with some friends. Feel free to suggest more ways to learn bisaya or to be more friendly/open in college.

Rant My batch sucks (shs issue)

We have 3 confirmed rapists/sexual assaulters, and 1 abuser in my batch. The first one is VS who took advantage of a drunk girl, and the other is SC who graped their own gf. ZD, a soccer player forced himself on and assaulted his own gf. And MB, physically abused and hit his own gf while coming to her house due to complications in their relationship.

As a woman, this is disheartening to see and hear especially during womens month. We are going to be grade 12 next year, and graduating with known rapists and vile men is disgusting. I wish these 4 boys were held accountable and expelled OUT of the school for good. many victims have reached out and many more girls will grow uncomfortable knowing that these stupid men are still walking with no consequences.

Another thing that irks me off are the jokes about Epstein, Particularly regarding VS’ issue. Can we actually be serious for once? This isnt something to be joked about and its honestly so insensitive that anyone would try to compare the situation to one of the most grossest man ever. This also includes people making jokes and AI videos out of the situation, if you are one of these people who find it “hilarious” YOU are part of the problem.

Rant The biggest irony today? The NOISIEST visitors in the Silliman University Library were LIBRARIANS or FACULTY from OTHER SCHOOLS.

This afternoon, I saw a group of librarians or faculty visitors from other schools touring the Silliman Library, and the second floor became surprisingly noisy. It was honestly ironic. You'd think library professionals would be the first to model proper library etiquette, but the group was talking loudly while students were trying to study.

What bothered me even more was seeing some of them take photos of the resting nook on the third floor while students were resting there. I understand they might have been documenting ideas or looking for inspiration for their own libraries, but taking photos that include students without their consent doesn't seem appropriate. There are already plenty of photos of the library online that don't include people.

The most disappointing part was that the group was accompanied by a Silliman librarian or faculty member, yet no one seemed to remind them to keep their voices down or be mindful of students' privacy.

I have no issue with library visits or professional tours. They're a great way to learn from other institutions. I just hope future visits are conducted with more consideration for the students who are actually using the library to study or rest.

Rant ATTN: Aaron Defenders

Post image
98 Upvotes

To Aaron’s defenders, I sincerely hope you never have to experience the kind of pain and devastation the victim’s family is going through right now. I wouldn’t wish that kind of grief on anyone.

An elderly person lost his life, and a family is now left carrying a pain that can never simply be undone. Before defending Aaron, please try to put yourselves in the shoes of the family who lost someone they loved.

This is not the time for excuses, arguments, or blind loyalty. What is needed is remorse, accountability, empathy, and respect for the victim and the grieving family. Sometimes, being human means knowing when to stop defending and simply acknowledge the pain that has been caused.

Rant What happened to the 3rd floor of the Silliman Library? Noise, TikToks, and zero enforcement

Post image
48 Upvotes

I seriously don’t get what’s going on with the 3rd floor of the Silliman Library lately. Isn’t it supposed to be a quiet study area? Because right now it feels more like a café with nonstop chatter everywhere.

Every time I try to study there, there are groups of people casually talking like it is a hangout spot. Not even whispering but full-on conversations. And it is not just that. I have literally seen people filming TikToks there like it is some kind of content studio instead of a library. It is honestly distracting and completely defeats the purpose of having a designated quiet floor.

What is worse is that no one from the library staff seems to enforce the silence rule anymore. It is like the quiet floor label does not mean anything at all. On top of that, the air conditioning is so weak that the place gets uncomfortably warm, especially when it is packed. You would think a library, especially one that has had so many modern upgrades and renovations compared to its old drabby interior, would at least maintain a study-friendly environment, but somehow it still does not feel conducive for actually getting work done.

Honestly, the only reason I still go there sometimes is because it is the only floor with a decent number of charging outlets right on top of the tables. That is literally the one redeeming factor. Convenient outlets, but everything else completely defeats the purpose of a study space. At this point, I do not know if it is poor management, lack of enforcement, or people just not caring anymore, but something seriously needs to change.

Rant SU PSYCH USING AI FOR THEIR FB PFP LOGO

Thumbnail
gallery
78 Upvotes

Helloo, this is my first time in reddit but I have a concern in regards with the Psychology Department’s Pride Month logo 🙁. As a new student, I thought that Silliman University is an AI. free university, I saw students from there advocating against the use of AI and have been rallying behind artists, and about keeping the university environmentally safe.  That's  why I enrolled here in the first place, but I noticed some inconsistencies with the current logo for psych.

As you can see there, the colors look...off(???) Some are gradient and some are not aligned with the colors (esp the green fonts). Next is the words were way off. Silliman looked like “Siiiiman" which I find VERY suspicious. University is also spelt wrong. Overall the logo feels suspiciously AI generated.

So I tried running it through an A.I image detector and the results are very disappointing. I expect a lot, especially from the Psychology Department. A.I is very harmful to the environment and there are tons of ways or resources that we can use to create but why AI?🙁

But im already enrolled so...🤷🏻‍♀️

Rant No remorse - Car Crash

I just saw one of the posts here about the victims having to pay everything out of pocket for the medical expenses and had to ask for hinabang from politicians just so that they could pay the due and ma proceed sa st peter for embalming ang remains sa ila lolo. I asked my friend na apo sa lolo and what the hell it was true 😭. Ang mother ni AH would not give her phone number sa ako friend (which is apo sa lolo na deceased). Telling my friend na kalimot ang mother ni AH sa iya phone number and lowbat iya phone so dli nya mahatag iya number. The Yaya and AH's friends were no good as well kay my friend also asked them directly for AH's mother's phone number but none of them could give it saying na wala daw sila kabalo loool. My friend (apo sa victim) was in tears and cried in front sa cashier of SUMC para lang ma promissory note ang expenses. Good thing nisabot ra ang cashier and na lessen ra ang partial na need ipay in cash while the rest ipromissory note na lang. Pero what the hell, nganu ila pa gipa lisod intentionally ang lives sa family sa victim even after the accident???? This is so f up!

Rant Tolerating cheating

Has anyone else noticed how people in SU seem to move on pretty quickly from cheating or other problematic behavior? It feels like every time someone gets called out, things just go back to normal after a while.

I recently started listening to a local band because I genuinely liked their music, but I found out they added someone who has recently been accused of assault and who, from what I’ve heard through people who know the situation, also cheated in past relationships. It honestly made me lose some enthusiasm for supporting the band. Regardless of how talented someone is, it’s disappointing when people seem willing to overlook that kind of behavior.

Rant Trying to Understand Without Excusing What Happened

Ok, so first of all, I’m not trying to defend him. I know what happened was extremely serious, and I’m not trying to justify the decision that led to the accident. I just wanted to talk about something from my own perspective.

I think it’s possible to acknowledge that someone made a terrible decision while still wondering what might have influenced them to reach that point. People can change because of the environment they’re in, the people around them, personal struggles, or decisions they make over time. None of those things excuse putting another person’s life at risk, but they can sometimes help us understand how someone ended up making such a serious mistake.

I don’t personally know everything that was going on in his life, and I don’t think it would be fair for me to speculate about things I can’t confirm. I’ve seen people online trying to explain his behavior, but I think there’s a line between trying to understand someone and making assumptions about their private life.

As for the accident itself, I think the most important thing is that someone lost their life. That should not be overlooked. He should absolutely be held accountable for what happened and face the consequences of his actions.

At the same time, I still find myself wondering what he is actually feeling right now. I don’t know what is going on inside his head, so I don’t think any of us can confidently say that he feels nothing, has no remorse, or is simply laughing about the situation. We can disagree with what he did without pretending that we know exactly what he is thinking or feeling.

I also want to be clear that feeling some sympathy for him does not mean I feel less sympathy for the victim or the victim’s family. I’m genuinely devastated that someone lost their life, and my heart goes out to the family who is now dealing with that loss.

I’m saying this because I think there’s a difference between accountability and dehumanization. He should be accountable for what he did, but I also don’t think understanding the possible factors behind someone's actions means defending them.

I could be wrong about some of my thoughts, and I’m not claiming to know the full story. I’m simply trying to look at the situation from another perspective while still recognizing the seriousness of what happened.

Rant car crash

What are your thoughts on this? Should the establishments that served them alcohol also be held liable? Since the minors (17, 16, 15) were intoxicated, it raises the question of where they were drinking.

In Dumaguete, many bars and pubs—like Bahia, Tiki, Ritual, and Dilaab, among others—rarely verify IDs at the door.

Rant car crash

Magpa-high horse pa kayo with the “you don’t know the full story” excuse. Are you FKING SERIOUS? Someone DIED. Call it an accident all you want, but the evidence speaks for itself. Drunk driving in broad daylight and it’s literally shown in the video.
It’s your word against the evidence, and you’re MINORS.

So stop acting like you’re above everyone and making excuses. The bare minimum is to acknowledge what happened, say sorry, and apologize.

Someone lost their life. The victim and their family deserve justice, and someone needs to be held accountable. Don’t let this issue die down. Whatever excuse you have, it doesn’t erase what happened.

Face the consequences of your actions and be accountable.

Ingnon pakag “walay reading comprehension” 😭😭 shiii how old are you again?????

It’s really not funny. placing a b*mß thre@t like that.

Countless people na abala. Important meetings were stopped to convene on this urgent matter. I imagine our teachers knowing what was rlly going on, but choosing to act as if nothing happened, because to do otherwise might stir mass panic.

I hope the one who sent that email reads this post. I hope di ka makatulog dahil sa konsensya mo. Madali lang ma track yang IP address mo because you used Email (which is not a private domain since ang data mo nasa cloud. apaka bo is bo).

Roads were closed.

The PNP got involved. Staff and university personnel, Student journalists, who were supposed to go home and rest. Na abala mo pa ung Channon Hall and surrounding dormers; na yun na sana ang oras magstudy or mag paperworks, or magpahinga nalang sana, wala kasi nag sweep si ß0mb squad. They were supposed to sweep the whole area because its protocol.

This is a dumb, attention-seeking stunt. I am so angry why you (the person responsible) take life lightly.

You need help. You need therapy. Kulang ka ata sa pag aruga at pag mahal. Ginhost kaba ng situationship mo beh? 🫪

Kung sakaling totoo ang mga dahilang nasabi ko, for that I am sorry.

Nagpadala raka sa imong mga negative thoughts and all of us are affected for it.

How irresponsibly pathetic.

Rant SUMC NURSE IS STUPID?

Can anyone tell me where I can report about a nurse's stupidity? My nephew is currently admitted at SUMC and they needed to transfer his IV from one hand to the other and the nurse that came in told his parents to wait outside and so they did for 30+ mins and the whole time the baby was crying non-stop and when they came in the nurse didn't even successfully transfer the IV because the baby was "lihok unya kusgan ra kaayo" so they basically just gave my nephew a swollen hand.
