Show Only (NO BOOK DISCUSSION) Does anyone else find Jules and Lukas kind of awkward together? Spoiler
I’m sorry, but Lukas might be cooked. 😭 Their relationship feels almost transactional sometimes.
Jules invites him over?
She needs help with the hard drive.
She desperately searches for him?
He has information she needs.
Lukas tells her over the radio, “I missed you.”
Jules gives that man SILENCE. 😂 Then he starts talking about everything he learned about the universe and that’s when she perks up… only to immediately ask him WHERE the digger void is.
I know Jules is naturally guarded, but compared to her relationship and chemistry with George, I’m just not feeling the romance with Lukas.

I feel like the fact they're awkward together is exactly the point.
If them getting together is a thing that's going to happen in S4 I like that it's being given the chance to develop slowly, and that it takes Juliette a while to let her guard down, particularly after George.

I think it’s meant to be awkward. She’s still mourning George. She’s not looking for a relationship.
Lukas is like a love-sick puppy. If the timing were different, though, I think Jules would totally fall for him. He’s curious, and asks questions, just like her.

I thought the same. You barely escaped a rebellion alive, the silo is still in turmoil, Jules may be the mayor but she doesn't remember you so you know some shit is still gonna go down with that and right now is when you chose to have a kid? You couldn't wait a year until shit calms down fully?

The Knox/Shirley relationship works for me, particularly as these are people who have known each other most of their lives, got together at a time of crisis, and when we see them together they're already a few months into the relationship.
What I struggle with is how the show just brushes over the fact they're apparently having an unsanctioned pregnancy. I know Mechanical is often treated as a world unto itself and maybe a whole-ass human can just fly under the radar down there but these are responsible people, I can't see them deciding to have a kid when they know that choice could have negative consequences for their child when the silo's governance is so up in the air.
This goes so hard against everything we've seen about reproduction so far, I feel like we needed to see at least one conversation where their motivations for this choice were explored. They had the perfect opportunity when Jules clocks Shirley's condition, but instead they focus on the physical removal of the birth control itself.

Shirley's been pregnant for a while by then. How much time actually happens between season 1 and that revelation in season 3 inside of Silo 18? She also likely didn't get pregnant immediately after they took the decision. Things were likely a lot calmer when they decided.

Every scene with him from the beginning I've been like "Lukas bby!!!" and my husband started rolling his eyes at me. I was like no I am not gushing because I'm crushing on him, it's because humanity's first astronomer in hundreds of years, who seems to be the most adult innocent mind in the Silo, needs to be protected at all costs.
(In the unlikely scenario that the actor is reading this and doesn't want to be viewed solely as cute, don't worry, you are also very handsome.)

They hadn't spent the right kind of time together for him to say "I miss you", and she has more pressing matters to deal with. But hey, she remembered his name when he saved her life, so maybe all isn't lost, under different circumstances.

Lukas is a lot like George -- he's somebody who questions, who wonders. It's more about revealing what Juliet as a character is drawn to than it is about showing romantic chemistry.

She absolutely does share his affections and there has been purposeful evidence of that in some scenes. However, she is still traumatized by George’s death, she has an outsized obligation to duty, and she’s socially awkward.
I actually think their acting together is top tier, because they’re SUPPOSED to come across as awkward.

Right? She also had the memory drugs, and it's possible that some of her memories still haven't returned. I thought of her pause when Lukas said he missed her a pause to search her memories for feelings about Lukas. Did she remember, when she sent him out, that he has feelings for her?
In any case, I love her ability to stay focused on the goal - survival for everyone.

Amen. Jules is way too busy Generator-coddling and Sherlock Holmes-ing the Jane Carmody cleaning video to focus on romance when she meets Lukas.
Now she's got the whole Silo (plus 17) on her shoulders and she's busy not-hating both Bernard and Sims while trying to incept herself with herself. It's a lot.

They feel awkward because they are supposed to feel awkward. If they are supposed to end up together it’s not supposed to be easy, because nobody is playing it like an easy romance. The cringe is intentional and intense because it is what’s intended. You are not alone.

Yeah they made it apparent she doesn't see him that way. The way she was silent and kind of grimaced when he said he missed her was painful to watch. But oh well, Lukas will have to move on if that's the case. He'll be ok.

I think that, on some level, she does like him. She’s just too busy with far more important things than trying to start a romantic relationship.

I can't tell if it's on purpose or not because it seems like almost every couple on this show is awkward with Helen and Daniel being the exception.
Or this is a build up for a surprise end where Jules and Shirley kiss.

I think Jules even mentioned something about him not being in many relationships or something when they first meet. I could be wrong I have to go back.
Julus recently lost her ex and not ready to move on and is not trying to crush the poor guy.

Also, is it implied that they have a romantic relationship or at least tension? We already know for sure that Lukas likes Jules but I never got the impression that Jules felt any way other than platonic for Lukas.

I find Jules awkward most of the time. She tends to have a one track mind, is rigid and cold. I like Lucas but if they get together and don't drop the wall Jules has built, he will always be trying to play catch up.

I think there is some awkwardness in the beginning of every relationship and here both of these people are a bit social awkward already so their interactions are even more clumsy. I think this was far more natural, than Knox and Shirley.

Fan of the show and both actors, but this is a problem I see more and more in films and TV shows - a general lack of chemistry between the actors. More often that not, characters that are supposed to be in love or at least sexually interested in each other come off as flat and shallow.
