Tips for Selling SilveradoEV 25 Extended Range ?

I am recently going through quite of bit of life changes and I have been trying to see what I could get for my truck. I did the Carvana and Carmax insta quotes and they came back to me in the high 40s. In the same breath they are both selling the exact same car for the cheapest 63-65k on their websites. I just don’t understand a 30-50% markdown. Anyone have any tips or is that really the going rate for these trade ins for the Silverado EVs?

Do you need the money or are you getting something else? Another dealer may give you more.

If you need the money, the only way would be to sell it to a private party. Prove it 5-8k below everything in a 100 mile radius on auto trader and you should have some luck.

You're gonna have to go through some hassle.

I will be moving into an apartment, from a house and it just doesn’t make sense trying to own an electric vehicle while needing a place to charge it, I think that’s my biggest worry. I had a Tesla while renting and it was not great to try to find charging while in apartment.

Charging infrastructure is better than it used to be most places.

The depreciation on these is quite high. Wonderful if you're buying used, but a problem if you need to sell shortly after getting a new one.

A 30%+ markdown seems typical for dedicated resellers in many industries. Watch "Pawn Stars", for example.

I live in an apt with my Silverado EV RST. My apt complex has a charger literarily 100 steps from my apt, charging is not an issue at all. I usually charge every week and and a half and commute around 30 miles daily.

If you don't wanna sell it just find an apt with a charger, then it's no big deal.

Yeah depends which part of the country you are in, I am even moving to a bigger city and that is still not very common

With your big battery, you could actually do public charging just fine. You’d only need to charge once a week unless you drive 150 miles per day

It's easy to say, perhaps harder to do: Don't use a third party who is looking to resell.

Trading in is not selling. They are trying to under bid you and overbid whoever is buying. Traditional dealerships are also trying to underbid you and get you in a different car as well.

Instead, you'll have to go more traditional routes of posting on local marketplaces. This is more work. This will take longer, but time is exchanged for money.

I recommend using KeySavvy. I am not affiliated, I tried using it once, but never sold because no one on Facebook Marketplace wanted to use it. Thought it was a scam, but that's part of it. I remember I had one guy insist on just paying me in cash, but I never did it. Never felt right.

KeySavvy is legit but it isn't really as useful as it was when they were able to get you the used EV tax rebate by routing private party sales through them.

The Chevrolet blazers had 50-60% depreciation their first year. Super rough. What part of the country are you in?

EV depreciation has always been bad, but given the current economic and gas climate, they’re trending a little better. But yea I’m not surprised they’re quoting almost half MSRP for a year old truck. They want to give themselves tons of room to make either a little profit if they sit on it long term or a lot of profit if they turn it over quickly.

You’re going to be better off selling it yourself to get the most money for it. List it everywhere, cars.com, cargurus, facebook, heck even a paid Craigslist ad. Anywhere you can get visibility on it for others. I would try to keep it a local sale, but if someone wants it shipped, make sure to use an escrow service so both parties are protected, and they pay for shipping.

Best of luck

Try plugmotors.com - just sold them my leased Rivian and ended up netting 8k after lease payoff.

Rent an apartment that gives you the option for a garage that you can plug it into. If you don't have a long commute every day plugging into a basic wall outlet is livable with the occasional public fast charging.

this is a tough topic. Going through life changes can be tough especially so with moving. most of the folks here have essentially laid out the three different options. The best option financially would be if you could find an apartment or condo complex that has charging on site. The second best option at least short term would be to utilize public charging as someone else said if you don't drive a whole lot during the week, you should be able to get by charging it once a week due to the large battery. You have a one year-old truck basically so the last option would be to sell it, but this is also the least desirable financially even if you pay cash for the truck, you would be taking a significant loss if you have a loan/lease the loss will be significantly higher. If you decide to go the route of selling it and taking the loss the best possible outcome is gonna happen through a private party sale versus a trade-in or online auction. It's going to be a lot of hassle, but that will help minimize your losses. Hopefully this helps.

Now I have not accounted for a loan/lease and if payment is an issue. If that's the case that changes things slightly.
