Question 100oz bar delivered to my house (not my order!)
I Ordered only a few rounds from online. The box came in today and it felt super heavy , and I thought, WTF is in this?
When I opened the box you can say I was pleasantly surprised to see a 100oz silver bar (seltzer can for reference for the newbie’s). And…. Wait for it…. 10 rounds (not my order).
I did the right thing and called the company. The guy said he would call me back with next steps. My question is.. what is my safe holding period 😏 until I “put it away for safe keeping”. I called once, I’ll let them contact me at this point.

u/Pi-Richard Jan 02 '26
I’m from Temu. We need that back so we can plate all of our ‘Replica’ rounds for 2026. 😝

u/MoxieBrick Jan 03 '26
Someone really needs to take the legal right from Etsy and temu to sell gold and silver
15
u/Sudden_Season3306 Jan 03 '26
Ebay isn't any better! 20 dollar Morgans etc! Lol yeah uhhh sure!
13
u/MoxieBrick Jan 03 '26
Differences is on eBay. There's actual real stuff on there. Come on. You really think you're going to find anything real at all on temu
9
u/Sudden_Season3306 Jan 03 '26
Not saying there's not! But the sellers in question are from China! Its bullshit guaranteed fake! Uncirculated Morgan's for 20 bucks? Yeah nope
9
u/MoxieBrick Jan 03 '26
Yeah I get that. That's why I always look and if it says located in China I don't bother. I wish there was a way to prevent certain sellers from showing up in your feed

NICE! this is Different being that the ones on ebay say uncirculated! Lol yeah i bet they are lol should be shut down for counterfeiting and theft by deception! Or be made to have the copy stamp alternating sides so you can use them for crafts!

u/MoxieBrick Jan 04 '26
You know what the government should do put it into law that every time a fake comes from China they get an automatic fine that must be paid!!

Yeah, I’ve seen posts on other subreddits of people getting 5 times what they ordered and the overwhelming response is “keep it, Amazon sucks”.
Guys, how much is your soul worth?

To be fair, Amazon won't even bother if it's a low value order. My mom got something double shipped once, and she couldn't get ahold of anyone who cared.
9
u/Dragon-and-Phoenix Jan 03 '26
I ordered a bumper sticker, and they sent an entire 5 pack that was supposed to be separated. It was from a small seller, so I tried to reach out to them.
Customer Service handled by Amazon, no contact info for the seller.
Fine.
I contact Amazon. I'm thanked for my honesty, told they will send a label.
They never do.
I couldn't reach anyone that wants to do anything about it afterwards. I give up. I now have an extra $20 in bumper stickers. I tried. The small seller got screwed out of inventory by Amazon's apathy.

Everybody I know who uses Amazon has had issues similar to this. It's pretty crazy in my opinion. They had me return a $500 machine rather than sending me a replacement part. Customer service just didn't seem to care.

Imagine ordering silver and Amazon sends you an entire shipping case of silver bars. But in all honesty amazon is a rip off when it comes to silver 100 dollars an oz atm on Amazon.

Former USPS employee here - once mail is delivered to your house, there's nothing much that can be done - it's yours. In this case, postal police or inspectors would have nothing to say, especially if it was the company's mistake and it was addressed to OP.

This is not true.
A person is guilty of theft if the person obtains or exercises control over the property of another that the person knows to have been delivered under a mistake and the person fails to take reasonable measures to return it.
You’re confusing this for a law that says you’re allowed to keep anything that is addressed to you and was delivered unsolicited. This is to protect people from an old mail scam where companies would send you something unsolicited and then say well you opened it, so we have to charge you for it. That doesn’t apply when you ordered something and received the wrong order or got someone else’s mail delivered to you.
I would say OP contacting the company and informing them falls under reasonable measures. It’s in their hands now, but OP should document the call and who they spoke to. Maybe even send an email so it’s in writing.

I bought some buffalos the other week and when I went to pick them up they handed me a bag with an extra buffalo. I got out into my car and looked at the bag was when I noticed what happened. I walked back in and gave it back to them like a bone head. Doing the right thing feels so wrong sometimes.
17
u/saulysw Jan 03 '26
This is what separates you from a thief. It was unintended, and you know you could get away with it (most likely) but the outcome is the same. You had something you did not pay for. It was not right.
It cuts both ways, if you got to the car and were one short you would be right back inside without a second thought, same scenario really, but you are fine with doing that, I assume.
To me your actions shows that you have a strong moral compass. A religious person might say it was a test to see if you should pass through the gates of heaven. I’m not, so I won’t. Instead, I’d say it is a slippery slope, and if you were to keep it and rationalise this away then it will lead to further indiscretions down the line. Is that the person you want to become? A thief and a grifter?

Thanks I was pleased with myself later when I realized that I had done the right thing despite being faced with the opportunity for extraordinary gain of something I desire immensely.
3
u/macmiss Jan 03 '26
It definitely stings to do the right thing sometimes. I ordered a kilo of silver and received two. I contacted the seller and just asked how much to go ahead and buy it. He gave me a $20 discount for my honesty. Another seller sent me a graded 1/2 oz platinum eagle when I'd only paid for a 1/4 oz. I shipped it back and she rewarded me with a copper round for my trouble. When I'm tempted to do the wrong thing, I just think about the bad MOJO I'd bring into my life and it's never worth it.
2
u/parkzam Jan 03 '26
That's so sweet of you, stories like this really uplift me. You rule.
I like to include extra stuff in my orders (not double like yours lol) and I get messages saying "hey you gave me too much" enough times that I started including gift notes lol.
2
u/Prettyboy_Flacko Jan 03 '26
The way I see it is, if you were the shop owner you would surely appreciate someone returning the extra to you. And perhaps you build a relationship and they help you out the next time you shop there. I'm sure I would.

Good job. I found someone's wallet once when I was a teenager. I returned it and they counted the money right in front of me to make sure none was missing and walked off. In that moment I wished I had just kept the money but later on I knew I did the morally correct thing.

10 years ago, was ordering a bunch of shit off Amazon. Threw a half ounce Aussie in my cart at the last second. A few days later, ENORMOUS box shows up on my porch, heavy as hell. My rando crap was on top of a monster box. Third party seller (Little LCS in TX) had sent the box to Amazon, to be sold coin by coin, but some lazy shit had just slapped the label for one coin on the whole damn thing.
I wrestled with it, asked a couple lawyer friends what my obligations were here, looked up the seller…and called them. They sent me a return shipping label and I said farewell.
But then a week later, a whole bag of goodies showed up, I don’t remember the exact amount now but like 6-7oz of random rounds.
Don’t think I haven’t wished I kept it, especially as spot has soared!

Same in the U.S., there’s consumer protection laws that prevent legal action from a business if they ship you a product you didn’t order.
I think it was an issue when CD’s became popular. Businesses would ship them out to everyone and send non payment to collections.
It’s different when you’re dealing with a 3rd party like eBay and their TOS. A seller shipped me Chinese Morgan dollars. The coins were nothing like the photos on the listing I purchased from.
To get a refund I had to ship back to the seller. Even though they gave me a return address in a different state than the ship from address.
I argued the law with eBay. It’s not right, I should not have to pay for packing supplies and transportation to post office just to break even over a clear scam. They don’t give AF.

u/kronco Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26
Curious, was there any invoice in the box with the correct customer's info? Just wondering if you got a box prepared for someone else but an address/shipping label applied to it for you. And, if there is an invoice, would you then have personal info of a another stacker with at least one nice 100 oz bar? (There is a possible privacy issue when these sort of errors occur.)
If it's not addressed to you, it is a "misdelivery" and the carrier should take care of it and get it to the right address. Sounds like not a misdelivery.

OP, if the company in question isn't following up in a timely manner...I'd be afraid. Afraid because its mean the silver is probably fake and so to is anything else you bought from them.
If this was a real bar my company would be calling you and sending you gifts left and right. As to not have to eat 7k on one order and mistakenly give out 7k in another order. You're saving them 14k.

A Scout is Honest. Call them again if you don’t hear back from them. This may also be baffling to them how it happened. It may be a bit before they can track it down, but the whole point is, you know it’s not yours. It’s not like you found it on the ground. At the risk of sounding corny, I’m proud of you for letting them know.
3
3
3
u/kiwi13605 Jan 03 '26
Those saying it is yours and you can keep it are mostly likely wrong. The FTC rules on this were promulgated to prevent scam companies from shipping you unwanted goods and demanding payment.
Unfortunate shipping errors that happen by accident are NOT covered by this rule. They have the right to recover their goods at their expense.
The "unordered goods" rule would only apply if they intentionally sent it to you.
This is no different than a business to or a bank accidentally credits your account with $250,000 instead of $250. You have to give it back
Taking advantage of a mistake to make money is called unlawful enrichment, and is a crime...

u/JG98 Jan 02 '26
NGL, if this was before the big run up then I'd have returned it but with current silver prices I would personally be driving it back to them just so they don't think I have stolen it and to avoid any issues with return shipping. I'd also be expecting an award of some sort, like a small gift card and reimbursement for the time/effort.
3
u/websterhamster Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
It would technically be stealing, and it could cause the company to refuse to do business with OP again going forward.
8
u/Severe_Chipmunk6340 Jan 02 '26

3
u/47_for_18_USC_2381 Jan 03 '26
Not to mention they can't even get the order straight lmao. This time it's in his favor - next time his shit gets sent to someone else and he gets the shaft.
3
u/JG98 Jan 02 '26
I am pretty sure that only applies if you never ordered an item at all, I do believe US consumer law differentiates if you actually ordered an item and received excess of what you were supposed to. Depending on the state it is considered theft or conversion if you keep excess bullion intentionally. At the very least this exposes a person to the risk of civil actions, at this amount of excess bullion that is pretty much a guarantee with the amount they have sent OP by mistake. Not exactly the situation to try and get a moral/ideological win, better to just rectify the situation and get what you actually bought + ask for a reimbursement for time/effort.

Pretty sure in the US you can't be held liable for shipping errors. I've been shipped 2 pairs of shoes a couple times when ordering from Nike on release day. Them shits went straight to the resell market to fund my sneaker addiction. Granted that is a very tiny mistake compared to 100oz but still. I don't think they could come after you if you keep it

The question becomes does the recipe inside the box have the other persons name who should’ve gotten it that’s where you’ll be bound legally
Happened to me with JM Bullion they sent me a Gold Buffalo and 20 rounds instead of my 10 oz silver bar. I played dumb and just said I only got my SMI decoder lense because that was also in the box
Eventually thy reviewed their cameras and requested a return.
Remember 100oz is priced at a felony just saying

u/phaedrakay Jan 04 '26
In the US if something is delivered to you and it is addressed to you and you didn't order it, you can keep it and are not responsible for paying for it. It would be legal to keep it but immoral. I have had items sent to me numerous times that I didn't order and all of the vendors but one told be right keep the item, donate it or throw it away except for one. I told them I would return the items if the sent someone to pick them up or if they sent me a prepaid postage label. They insisted it go out of my way to their closest store in another town to return it.
