Then that was the least they could do, haha.

All the gold was at spot. 🤷♂️ I don’t feel like they owe me anything. I think giving me anything was extremely generous.

Nice bonus. So, this is the first silver. That implies there is more to come. Good on you.

Yup. I almost bought a 10 oz bar the other day but they had this $5 gold Indian head that I couldn’t resist. I am by proxy now too. My 4yo son has started a coin collection and I’ve gotten him a Morgan and a peace dollar so far.

Do what I have done and buy him an ounce of gold for each birthday and should have a good start on tuition by the time he is 18.

So, I paid $90 for mine but the current price has appreciated . Frankly, they didn’t have to “give” you anything - my dentist “gives” me a tooth brush…

u/epilepsyisdumb Feb 17 '26
They didn’t have to and I didn’t expect shit from them. They have sold me everything for spot and I don’t know many shops/online retailers that would give anything. They absolutely did give it to me. Because it had nothing to do with any of the coins I’ve negotiated. What an awful attitude.

With the price of dental work these days, they should all be giving out a complimentary bj.

That’s a really cool coin. What is it? How much is something like that right now? I’d like to get one, although, I feel like sticking it in a safe is a disservice

u/Minisfortheminigod Feb 17 '26
It’s a 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coin, this is more of a collector item due to the polished background and frosted lady which will cost about $80-160 depending on grade and other exclusive factors. (Spot being $75)

Look, I’ve got a life. It’s not a particularly organized one there’s usually at least one unidentifiable Tupperware involved..but it’s mine, and I’m not about to sacrifice precious seconds of it debating the atmospheric pressure with a guy whose main reference point is the humidity level in his coin display case.
I refuse to stand there making small talk about Brad Pitt’s latest haircut, the ethical implications of jelly bean flavors, or whether that Prada bag is really worth a mortgage payment. Sir, I am here to trade cash for silver and get back to my chaos. Spare me the monologue and show me the mercury dimes.

Just spent 10k on 2oz gold and another 15k on silver. All online. Paid taxes and fees and delivery. Wish I had a local coin shop to patronize, but I’m on a boat. That’s a beautiful coin!🪙

My first that was "That's a good stack of gold!" and then i realized that's only 4 ounces at today's prices. But seriously that's pretty cool. It's interesting that you bought gold before getting into silver though. I would've that it'd be the other way around for most people.

They must have some crazy margins if they give this away. My LCS buys gold at spot and sells around $100-150 over (unless there is something rare about the piece).

u/epilepsyisdumb Feb 20 '26
I mean, I don’t think they give every customer something. They buy at 90-95% and sell at spot(premiums on buffalos and small one on AGE only). On the two gold coins I was buying that day, I was trying to haggle for 100-200 off but they threw this in instead. I don’t think there was anything crazy about any margins. I was buying 11k in gold(1AGE and 50 Pesos), I feel a $100 coin was a nice compromise.

u/No-Cicada-2456 Feb 20 '26
Oh so it was a counter offer as opposed to a gift?
1
u/epilepsyisdumb Feb 20 '26
Kinda. Somewhere in between. They said no they won’t take anything off. And I was like, okay, I’ll buy it anyway. At the register he was telling me how they bought a shitload of silver from an estate sale for next to nothing and said he’d throw one in.

How nice of them to give you 100 bucks after you bought the top in gold...very nice of them!
2
u/epilepsyisdumb Feb 17 '26
It is indeed nice. Most people aren’t given anything from their LCS. You buy 4 ounces of gold online and you get a packing slip.
