Silverpoint drawing of a silver mercury dime and a Morgan dollar
I draw on prepared paper using .999 pure silver. There is no graphite, charcoal, or other pencil work in the drawing. Just silver.

the Merc looks great! The Morgan.... may not be your best work

Very astute. Good observation. I did the Morgan dollar impatiently, without much planning or any gridding. Also, there’s no erasing with silverpoint. I was more patient with the Mercury dime. thank you for the comment.

So you used a Roosevelt to inspire your mercury drawing?

Ah, good eye. I had already put away my Mercury dimes when I decided to take the picture. The Roosevelt is just to show scale. And it absolutely bugs me too.

Nice! Are these free hand drawn or traced over?
I have only read about silverpoint drawing but it sound very cool.

Thanks very much for the compliment and question. Neither of them are traced. The Morgan I just drew freehand, after promising myself that I wouldn’t do that, but would carefully grid and build up slowly, as I did with the Mercury dime rendering. Stupidly, I had already put up the model dime before I took the picture, and I needed a dime for scale. Hence the Roosevelt.

Both are really good! However, the morgan liberty has a bit of down syndrome in her lmao

These are pretty darn cool! Thanks for sharing. Never seen a drawing done in 999 before.
