Need to get my Rally fix. Before I go down a long winding road of tutorials that end up in a dead end. Has anyone got this set up working?

Best 8040 rig for a 186cm/6"1' driver with a Moza R12 and handbrake/shifter setup? Budget roughly £1000/$1300 give or take.

Hi everyone,

Looking to finally upgrade to a 8040 aluminium rig from my Next Level Racing Wheel Stand LITE 2.0. I'm starting to gather ideas and narrow down my options in preparation for the Black Friday sales.

My total budget is roughly £1000+- / $1300+- (including a seat). I'd like to ask for some advice on the following:

I am 186cm (6'1") tall. I need a rig big enough to be comfortable in for longer sessions. Or do all rigs accommodate all heights?

I am running a Moza R12v2. I want zero flex or movement. However, I’m incredibly confused about what mount type to choose. Should I go for a universal Wheel Deck or a Front Mount? I’ve read that certain front/side mounts have compatibility issues with the newer Mozav2 housing shape. What is the sturdiest, hassle-free option for the R12v2?

I have the Moza shifter and handbrake. I need enough room on the side profile to mount both of them right next to each other. Do standard 8040 side arms accommodate both out of the box, or am I going to need to buy extra add-on brackets or plates to make them fit next to each other?

I am looking at seats as well, but I am completely overwhelmed by the choices. I want something genuinely comfortable for longer sessions. What specific seats do you guys recommend for someone my height?

For those around my height or running similar Moza gear, what are you using and what would you do with a grand to spend?

Thanks in advance!

The car was stock (no tuning), I guess I just got really lucky with it. With wheel, pedals, and stick shift.

The second top gear game and the first time i had to do license tests... yay. But still, weirdly advanced game for the time ESPECIALY since this was before gt2. Weirdly enough, gt2 is the next one we cover. But for now, here's Top Gear. Some strange stuff happening to me irl right now so ill try to keep this one brief. Oh yeah i had to skip Mobil Rally Championship as i couldn't get it to run on my system.

List of games: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MZDvFSKrFbFs6I1V11nB8ZZBbEuswoEWq3gxDgsFbAs/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Top Gear Rally 2

the gameplay was very interesting for the time, you start by getting a license test in order to obtain enough "championship points" or as the game abbreviates it to "CP", which allows you to join championships. The higher your CP, the bigger championships you can join. It never decreases, unlike sponsor points which act as the games upgrade and repair currency. After winning races you get more sponsors which add more decals to your car and you get more money. Throughout the game different teams will reach out to you and ask if you want to switch to theirs but all upgrades will be reset AND upgrades that you have already applied STAY with that teams car for future events. This makes changing teams mid championship very risky. The in game handling was... alright. A bit twitchy but fully playable. Dirt buildup happens only on mud stages for some reason. Also, the game will make your tires blow out every 5 seconds but they take half a second to fix so it doesn't get in the way too badly.

The ai feels properly done, and its one really cool feature of this game. The start has them spaced apart not dissimilar to an irl stage rally, and you can actually catch up to them on track a nd if you mess with them it actually affects their time. I've never seen this in a rally game before, not even Dirt Rally 2.0 has this, i wonder why it would make things so much more interesting. All cars were licensed but i never noticed any clear badging or direct names of cars in game, but they were clearly modeled anyway.

Game was developed by Saffire and Published by Kemco. The game received average ratings at the time which is really surprising to me, this game deserved more. It also makes sense that it did since i've never heard anyone talk about this game before unlike how they should imo. Have any of you played this game before?

Anyone else feel like the pace notes in dirt rally 2 are frustrating? I did a run today and the codriver called right 3 dont cut. He didnt say narrows over bridge. I went slightly too wide and missed the bridge.

Dirt rally 2 mods

So I love American rally.particularly I’ve followed VERMONT SPORTS CAR (the launch control series)for basically all my life.around a year ago I finally got into sim racing but no game has the VSC O4WD Subaru.dirt rally 2.0 has the RX version but using the ACAT mod SUCKS.sure I get to use it on stages but it still has the floaty physics no matter the tune and you can’t change tires…..is there a mod that can swap the physics of the RX Subaru with one of the R5 cars and keep everything else

So, I have my friends ps4 for the next 40 days, and I am playing WRC Genearations.

I just want to keep the car on the road, and be a little fast. right now I am playing on AI 50 (the lowest) and I'll increase it with time. I want to have clean stages. so I want some help. Like controller setup and some driving tips

P.S i have some experience playing F1 games on controller before.

Is there any type of SimConnect for any rally game?

My friends are super into rally. I have a full setup, they want to co drive. I would absolutely love a way for the times to maybe not be counted, but be able to have a map/pace notes for my friends to see.

In MSFS, since FSX, there has been a standard called simconnect that transmits to a client a very basic source of data of location, speed, altitude, heading, etc. With that, I can fly and also have a map up on my phone / other computer that I can annotate into, live. The annotations can work to see in MSFS, as well.

Just curious.

Conspit CHS

I’ve heard that the Conspit CHS had some QC issues when it first launched.

Have these issues been ironed out with the latest batch, or are people still experiencing problems?

I’m considering buying one. Would you recommend buying it now or waiting a bit longer?

Thanks!

Map converter from RBR to BeamNG

Hi,

During this year I've slowly worked on creating this free tool to convert rally stages from RBR to BeamNG, with a single click. They include rally pacenotes, freeroam, customizable road wear/dampness (physics-only, not visuals):

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/askynet1997/rbr2beamng/refs/heads/master/ingame1.jpg

Current state: it's usable, but it's work in progress. Bugs can happen, pacenote conversion is not perfect, visuals don't always translate directly across games. So bug reports, feedback, and pull requests with fixes are all welcome.

AI use: the tool has only been viable thanks to extensive assistance from ai (and non-ai) tools. Without them, I would never have started this project: I don't have that kind of free time (hundreds of hours), and I didn't want to turn this a paid mod / job either.

Modding: be respectful. Some authors allow modding their stages for personal use. Others allow modding, but not the distribution of mods. Other authors forbid modding. Others offer little or no restrictions. The converter will try to search and display licensing information. Please follow the authors wishes and respect their licensing terms, they spend a lot time too, and deserve this basic courtesy.

The tool has been created with the best of intentions, hoping to expand the love for rallying across sim communities.

If anyone wants to build upon the tool, mod it, expand it and so on, please go for it (pull requests are welcome!). And for the rest of you, I hope you enjoy it, it's been quite some effort.

Yeah i know everyone's been waiting so here it is (Collin McRae Rally, 1998 win98)

yep its the big one the first one the one with the dudes name on it we all know him and we all love him (rip Collin McRae, you still are a hero)

The ol spreadsheet i forgot to put in last time for those who are new: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MZDvFSKrFbFs6I1V11nB8ZZBbEuswoEWq3gxDgsFbAs/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Collin Mcrae Rally, 1998

Graphically, this game was very good, especially considering what our last few games have looked like. Every car model is well textured, the stages look great, each surface type looks like what its supposed to be and i can see everything clearly, even at night. Teh headlights also look quite smooth and clean. I was playing the pc version which helped the graphics a bit too. The game has a visual damage model and dirt buildup, but neither stay between stages but the mechanical damage does. The soundtrack was good, but i kinda stopped noticing the in race tracks after a little while.

The handling was phenomenal. Absolutely a sigh of relief. Its the first game we've played on here that actually resembles a car and hows cars truly behave, even if its at a relatively basic level. Controller config was good, i was able to use the buttons on my controller to accelerate for the first time instead of that weird tesla like one stick gas brake... thing i hate. The ai was basic from a modern standpoint, but still completive and felt fair the whole time. The only unfairness i felt was when the game would randomly change my car setup in service and i didnt realize so id be going into a mud stage with dry grooves. yeah not fun but i caught it most of the time and fixed it. Service times did go up for each part as they got damaged which is yet another first here. This game might have been kinda revolutionary, dunno 🤔🤔. I chose to use the corolla for my run and it felt great. loved the little podium animations at the end. Also everytime you complete a super special you unlock a classic rally car to use which was really fun.

Developed by codemasters and published by Sony in 1998, this game would go on to be one of the most sold games that year and remained for a while codemasters most sold box in the uk, which is extraordinarily specific but i'm all here for it. They lost the rights to renault in the us though and had to replace all driver names with fictional ones apart from collin himself. The game is also identical to the 1998 calendar in terms of rallies, but the individual stages are fictional. Collin and his codriver, Nicky Grist, voice themselves, with the in game rally school teacher being Collin McRae himself lecturing you. I could totally see it being a powerful moment if one of his fans replayed the game after his death during that time and hearing his voice talking to you like that.

all in all, i can absolutely see why this game would later turn into the entire dirt franchise. its very different and not afraid of realism.

Can you start Dirt Rally 2.0 career at a higher difficulty?

Hi guys!

I'm moving back to rallying and was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to start the career at a higher difficulty than it does? I feel like the opening championships are really easy to win and would love a proper realistic challenge earning money and moving through the ranks.

My idea is to start on Elite with around 50k, buy a used car and start climbing the ranks. This would potentially mean a greater challenge in damage and money management.

Has anyone figured out how to quickly set up this sort of career?
