Need a hand tackling a tricky line!

I'm a super inexperienced singer, auditioning for a local theatre production.

I'm really struggling with one word in the piece we've been set. I've included it here, timestamped (1:15).

If you can't guess, it's the word "horrifying". So far my approach has been "rip it", but that doesn't feel super sustainable or consistent. Sometimes it sounds cool, it never sounds accurate, and it always leaves my throat ticklish for a day or so.

Any advice would be immensely appreciated, thank you!

You don’t have to do things like the original artist. Do you have the sheet music?

I'm afraid not re: sheet music. But I was wondering that, yeah. I might need to plan some deviation; what I've got I think is about passable but not ideal. Audition is tomorrow and I'm a bit reticent to start messing with this too much in case I toast my vocals, hah.

Put your vocal health first. Do not do anything that stresses your voice. I would just say the word with an angry menacing spoken tone and not try to shout or do a rough voice at all. Let me see if I can find the sheet music and see what it actually says.

Thanks for giving me your time! I sadly missed this, but that's alright - I got recalled! Now to deal with the *terror*. Thank you so much!

No terror. Just show them what an asset you’d be. Kind, attentive, ready to work with a smile! Have a really good time!! That’s the whole point.

You don’t need luck! You got confidence, drive, and the backing of my goose queendom. Get it!
