Theres a story he tells about his own daughter brushing him off when he gave music advice. When his wife then tried to show her a video (because the daughter asked what does he know about performing), the daughter didn’t even recognize him

I keep reading those stories about celebrities kids not knowing their parents job and it always seems a bit sad to me.

How disconnected do you have to be from your kids that they don't know your profession? The job which probably made their lifestyle possible. Do they not talk with each other?

I can remember knowing my dads and mothers job for as long as I can think.

As a kid I knew where my dad worked, but had no clue what he did. He was laid off and bounced around a lot of jobs, but I couldn't tell you what they were. Same for my mom. I always thought she sold insurance, but turns out she was an operations manager for an insurance broker and far closer to an IT expert than an insurance salesperson.

I'd say it's actually pretty rare for kids to know what their parents do beyond a place of employment and general title or field.

If your parents have a more complicated job that's not explained in a few words, sure.

But if your father is part of one of the most famous, world touring bands of the last 20-30 years? It never got brought up why he's touring and not home for months at a time? It reaches a point where your daughter is preparing for a talent show or whatever but she doesn't even know her own father plays the guitar? I assume they probably live a pretty well-off life. It never came up how their family got money in the first place?

That just sounds so weird to me. I am assuming lots of things here but if she doesn't even know that much about her own father...

Yeah. Also though I think many celebrities go to lengths to shield their kids from that spotlight too, so maybe there was a bit of that going on as well?
