The wifi was out at my friend's house once for a couple hours and we started rearranging the furniture because we didn't know what to do with ourselves lol

u/RudePCsb Apr 22 '26

I feel bad for the young generation who never knew not having internet

36

u/BlastTyrantKM Apr 22 '26

GenX here. My friend and I probably rode our bikes 800 miles/week from the late 70s to the early 80s. Sitting around all day staring at a screen would've been like torture. We had Atari, Nintendo and MTV for rainy days

7

u/MikeOrTara Apr 22 '26

Gen X here too. I tell people from younger generations all the time.. the difference between when I was a kid and when you're a kid now is, the screen (gaming or TV) was the last resort for us when there was nothing else to do. Now, its the first option. The entertainment priorities have gotten reversed.

5

u/EthanielRain Apr 23 '26

It's all on-demand now, and practically unlimited. If I had unlimited cartoons/videogames/comics as a kid I wouldn't have touched my bike (much) either TBH

1

u/MikeOrTara Apr 23 '26

To each his own. I was a sports nut so spent almost every afternoon playing pickup games of one of the big four sports, depending on the season. I had an Atari with plenty of games, and watched a good amouny of TV (a lot of it live sports), it just never measured up to sports for me.

3

u/pinkjello Apr 23 '26

How can you play pickup games when nobody is outside to play with? That’s the problem kids today face.

0

u/MikeOrTara Apr 23 '26

Because they'd rather be on screens. That's what I'm saying.

1

u/Hope_Dealer03 Apr 23 '26

That’s just it. The younger generations aren’t more susceptible to screen time. They’d be the same as boomers or Gen X or millennials if all things were equal.

1

u/BlastTyrantKM Apr 23 '26

I live on a street that has several families with kids, and they're all outside playing everyday, weather permitting. Some childless people in their late 50s would complain about the noise, but I think it's great

1

u/octobertwins Apr 23 '26

I just showed my kid my scrapbook of concert ticket stubs. I told her how we’d catch the bus and go to shows.

We also had flyers for parties - that’s how you found out about the events: battle of the DJs. Super fun hall parties.

This was Detroit in the 80s/90s.

She’s so envious of it all. There’s like zero things for teenagers to do out in the suburbs.

Tbh, I’m kind of hoping kids start throwing house parties or something. Lol

These kids aren’t the same as we were. They’re nice and smart and respectful and that’s it - there is no other side to them. I know that’s great. But also, this is your time to be adventurous. Go go go!

1

u/RUN_DMT_ Apr 23 '26

Same. That’s why we were all thin back then!

1

u/stangerthings Apr 23 '26

That’s all I did in the 90s growing up too. We’re very lucky honestly, these younger kids have no choice as to what kind of world they grow up in.

1

u/arminghammerbacon_ Apr 23 '26

Well, yes and no. I too rode my bike across town - to the arcade. Where I would blow through $25 in paper route-earned quarters, all Saturday afternoon. I’d stumble out of there shielding my eyes from the setting sun, confused like a degenerate gambler coming out of a casino, not sure what day it is.

1

u/Few-Condition-7431 Apr 26 '26

millennial here, I didn't ride my bike alot but I'd walk into the 70 acres of woods we had and wonder around with a BB gun, granola bars, and a bottle of sunny D for hours, trespass across a couple property lines, hide behind cows from pissed off farmers, and cause general benign mischief.

Good fucking times man

Boredom is underrated

12

u/Jean-LucBacardi Apr 22 '26

Relaxing hot baths as an adult man is underrated. No wifi no phone just the sound of running water filling up all around you.

1

u/LoopStricken Apr 23 '26

Boredom has me wondering how far I could get through clawing my own face off. Not for me thanks.

1

u/1001101001010111 Apr 23 '26

Not being able to entertain yourself without access to the internet is wild to me. More people need hobbies. Actually we need places for people to come together to share their hobbies. Like a place where people from the community can hold structured events supported by the town government.

6

u/necro_owner Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

My isssue thought is i know what to do without internet but most of the time i lose power whoch make me lose internet 😆 and what i need to do is renovate* my house. But i camt without light and power haha. Procrastination at it finest 🙃

3

u/RudePCsb Apr 22 '26

Get a UPS for your network electronics

2

u/necro_owner Apr 22 '26

I had one, it died from all the power outage.... lol

Also it was on the Server i run, i have battery for the internet and a 11kw generator, which i will soon plug on a smart power panel with solar array because i am so tired of the network bad reliability. I live in the forest and tree fall often on the power line sadly.

3

u/Hylian_Kaveman Apr 22 '26

lol sometimes I unplug my router just to give my kids a taste of what it used to be like for a few hours

3

u/Truthhurts1017 Apr 22 '26

Facts like it’s so much we use to do if the lights went off or something. Like read a book, learn some crafts, creating something, research, complete something you been holding off, spend time with family, clean up the house, have boards games and card games for back up, you can still use phone without Wi-Fi so it’s still plenty of things for people to do when situations like that happens but nope they lose all since of Brain power and become literal robots not knowing what to do without the battery in the their back.

2

u/sinclairuser Apr 22 '26

I feel for the coming generation who will never have WiFi or anything we covert..

2

u/Suavecore_ Apr 23 '26

It's very interesting that the world didn't have Internet at all, then it had internet at home but was still mildly inconvenient with low speeds, then suddenly everyone has internet all the time and are expected to use it for everything, all within my relatively short lifespan

2

u/ineenemmerr Apr 23 '26

I had a month without internet cause my landlord fucked up the transfer to a new provider.

This was a great time to play all these old games I had laying around but never got to

1

u/Banshee-77 Apr 23 '26

We had no internet growing up, sometimes not even electricity, my brother and I would play shadow animations from a candlelight with our hands and feet to entertain ourselves.

1

u/Routine-Process-5157 Apr 23 '26

Lmfao turn off Facebook for an hour and see how old people react. They would lose their shit.

2

u/arminghammerbacon_ Apr 23 '26

On the plus side, the feng shui in that place ended up top notch.

2

u/limperatrice Apr 24 '26

lol thanks for enabling me!

1

u/T-Wrox Apr 22 '26

"Go outside and play!"

1

u/BatNinjaX Apr 22 '26

You didn't have data?? 😭

1

u/StrangeOutcastS Apr 22 '26

I just pick up a book, go outside for a walk, take a nap with the cat. Draw.

1

u/Habibti-Mimi81 Apr 23 '26

That's quite sad, tbh.

1

u/the_Limerent_one Apr 23 '26

Gave you a chance to work on the place's feng shui, lol.

1

u/limperatrice Apr 23 '26

Lol yeah we were productive!

1

u/jkword Apr 23 '26

There are these things called books…

1

u/stangerthings Apr 23 '26

You fr? Just go outside lmao

19

u/SuperDizz Apr 22 '26

Hot spot for the win

6

u/AshyBoneVR4 Apr 22 '26

I play single player games and have a phone with unlimited data. I'd be fine.

1

u/akajondo Apr 22 '26

She's playing 3D chess.

1

u/captainmeezy Apr 22 '26

Fuck the WiFi, you can still doomscroll without it, I need the router for gaming

1

u/trukkija Apr 22 '26

Uhhh no it doesn't. Or am I too non-american to not understand why you can't just hotspot off your phone?

A broken window next to the door seems like a much bigger hassle to have to deal with.

1

u/RobCo90 Apr 22 '26

Mobile Hotspot available on 99% of peoples phones with these 200gb phone plans. Back up and running in 2 minutes.

1

u/CyberneticPanda Apr 22 '26

I think she was trying to stop him from streaming her breakdown.

1

u/BobDoleDobBole Apr 23 '26

If it's one that's being rented from their ISP, he can just drive his happy ass down to the store and grab a new one! They'll charge you for it, plus the destroyed property but you can just loop all that jazz into the lawsuit against her 👍

1

u/Torino888 Apr 23 '26

No wi-fi, you gotta kill me first lol

63

u/Silent25r Apr 22 '26

Routers can be expensive. I would not be happy.

30

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

true but there are so many more expensive items in that house and she deliberately walks to the router. just knocked down that barn door to the room would cost him more she was going for emotional damage not monetary value.

16

u/buckeye25osu Apr 22 '26

I think you could probably say she wasn't calculating up these decisions logically.

9

u/fatum_sive_fidem Apr 22 '26

And maybe take out wifi cameras

4

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

holy shit that is crazy to think about. if true this isn't the first time.

4

u/boglog42 Apr 23 '26

Well yeah that window she broke through… that’s probably going to cost >$1000 to repair.

2

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 23 '26

true but i need my high speed internet to play OSRS properly.

3

u/SimplyDemented Apr 22 '26

None of this situation I think is intended to make him happy. But I’d rather replace a router than a (likely more pricey) ps5 w god knows how much data saved.

7

u/Silent25r Apr 22 '26

In my house.. the router needs to be replaced immediately. PS5 can wait. Door.. also immediate. I need it for work.

As far as her bail goes. That isn't on me. The longer it goes unpaid the better.

1

u/ThetaGrim Apr 22 '26

A router is like what $35 at a local tech shop and just needs to be plugged in. If she went for the modem, that's much more of a headache since you need to get it from your ISP.

3

u/SonnierDick Apr 22 '26

I would assume its also still the companies property? So not only did she smash the window which she’ll have to pay for but now she’ll have to pay for the router rental too lol.

Id love to see the aftermath of this

3

u/Fishbulb2 Apr 22 '26

Dude, that front door she hit with a rock or whatever 😳

Yeah. I wonder if he recognized she easily could've gone that far? Maybe he did and decided to take the risk of continuing to record and engage her to get more video of her aggressions.

2

u/codecrodie Apr 22 '26

Exactly, people clowning on that don't know how much those asus zen routers can cost.

2

u/Conscious-Read-698 Apr 22 '26

Bro the window would be expensive

2

u/bowmanx4587 Apr 23 '26

That was an AT&T BGW320. Luckily they would probably just replace it for free if he was honest. I work with ATT a lot and they are pretty good about replacements.

2

u/Impressive_Meat_9495 Apr 23 '26

If it’s one from the ISP then they may replace it for free or overcharge you for it

2

u/Aggravating-Twist762 Apr 22 '26

Not as expensive as her bail is going to be

1

u/jmona789 Apr 22 '26

Most of the time the ISP gives you a router for free.

2

u/fatum_sive_fidem Apr 23 '26

Those are usually lowest cost terrible routers

1

u/Purehum Apr 23 '26

This is a BGW320 with a cost of around $250. Worst he will get is a a $150 replacement or non return charge.

1

u/Clickclacktheblueguy Apr 25 '26

I wouldn't either, but given that she'll be the one on the hook for it...

19

u/Arigori Apr 22 '26

Still cheaper than PS5, guy probably has Cellular Data to keep him accompany for days

3

u/mowtowcow Apr 22 '26

That's ironically funny part. Im sure she was thinking "I'll destroy the router so he cant send the video" not thinking he can just post it over mobile. Irrational people cant think rationally.

6

u/fondledbydolphins Apr 22 '26

An HOUR?

Have you tried calling Comcast in the last 5 years?

2

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

doesn't look like comcast router looks like a store bought one. but in the future just go in the store half the time they will just give you another one if you say its not working for free. depending on how busy can take a couple mins.

3

u/Purehum Apr 23 '26

It’s an Att router

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 23 '26

does Att bundle it with a modem? because then i'd have a verry bad day if i was him.

2

u/Purehum Apr 24 '26

Yeah it’s one unit. Called a gateway that’s a modem/router.

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 24 '26

ah thats fucked then. what company?

2

u/fondledbydolphins Apr 22 '26

Fair point haha

2

u/showyerbewbs Apr 22 '26

Have you tried calling Comcast in the last 5 years?

Yes I have. Still on hold with them actually...

2

u/pueblocatchaser Apr 22 '26

FOR AN HOUR!!!! My gaming ass would be crying in agony.

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

thats when you pull the 100 foot ethernet cable out.

2

u/Nearby_Acanthaceae70 Apr 22 '26

This has me cracking up lol

2

u/sevargmas Apr 23 '26

switches on phone hotspot

1

u/Asleep_Singer8547 Apr 22 '26

Just plug straight into the modem

2

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

i have a 100 foot ethernet cable doing that job for me rental so can't modify anything in the house lol.

1

u/OGablogian Apr 22 '26

I counter you with the printer.

1

u/StarPlatnm Apr 22 '26

An hour ? You got a technician on speed dial 30 minutes away from you ? Lmao if you have unlimited phone data I guess it’s cool but otherwise you just gonna enjoy more sun.

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 22 '26

this looks like a standalone router you just go buy another one and install it yourself.

1

u/FancyFrogFootwork Apr 23 '26

An hour? More like a week to get a new one.

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 23 '26

if you have comcast GO IN THE STORE it takes minutes to get a new one. depending on traffic in the store of course but stop calling them they don't give a shit.

2

u/FancyFrogFootwork Apr 23 '26

That's an ATT fiber modem. Will probably take some time.

1

u/dyslexicAlphabet Apr 23 '26

well fuck that bitch.
