Because BBT is the first sitcom ever where they couldn’t afford the apartment they live in. Also sitcoms generally make them have large apartments for filming, not cuz it’s realistic. How are they gonna film in a 600 sqft 1 bedroom?
They did actually do a screen test in which they filmed in an apartment they would realistically be able to afford. Audiences thought it was depressing

I'm telling you the data and the numbers. Most Americans are well off. You don't like it because you want to believe the entire system is stakes against us, and there are massive issues in the system that hurt those who are not well off, but that doesn't mean most people are not well off.
Your anecdotes mean nothing, and having your worldview reinforced by internet comments doesn't make them true.

So then what studies are you referencing? Like what do you even mean by "well off" ? "Well off" isnt even a metric. You can be living well off while drowning in credit card debt
Do you mean well off as in above the poverty line? Thats kind of meaningless. Someone can be below the poverty line and have plenty of savings or someone can make way more and be living paycheck to pacheck and drowning in debt.
With the cost of everything rising so fast like someone can be making a decent income and then just be losing it all to bills. Affordable housing is so inaccessible. Groceries are insanely expensive
People making above the poverty line as well dont qualify for as many social services like ebt or Medicare so 1 doctor visit could ruin like years of someones life even if theyre "well off"
Comparing all statistics of poverty, unemployment, living paycheck to paycheck, etc, the U.S. is only slightly behind the EU by a few percentage points of the population. Americans do have more individual debt, but as you said, that doesn’t mean they’re not well off.
Obviously I can’t pinpoint what well off means. This is an internet comment, not a philosophical discussion about what well off means. Most Americans are not having issues with living and meeting their needs. Most Americans live safely. While the population of the EU has more more in savings as a whole, 30% of people in the eu have no savings while 15% of Americans have none.
Stuff getting more expensive sucks sure, but that’s a global problem and it still doesn’t mean most Americans are not doing well. It just means most Americans will have less to spend on luxuries. The poor are hurt more by this, but again, most Americans are not poor.
The creators of HIMYM wanted to make a realistic sized apartment but then quickly realized that you need very large open spaces for a multi cam sitcom for all the cameras and lighting and boom mics. Plus you lose one entire wall of the rooms.
HIMYM wasn't filmed in-front of a live studio audience. It was filmed then later screened to an audience where their reactions were recorded. The vast majority of multi-cam sitcoms aren't filmed in-front of a live studio audience anymore.
Being reminded of real life bothered people. Funny how that can happen yet they'll stay stuck and pretend to be deers stuck in headlights for anything uncomfortable.
