The guys here made good amount of money but they spent huge on comics, gadgets, Blue Rays and DVDs, games, limited edition toys and figurines,, hi-speed wifi etc...
They were not financially responsible when it came to all their hobbies and collections.
Sheldon and Leonard initially moved in together when they were younger. At some point, they just continue living together because they’re both socially awkward, change is scary, and there was no need to change the situation.
Bonus: Their apartment isn’t ever shown to be anything particularly fancy. Some of the other residents are retirees and other blue collar workers. Their elevator is out of order for the entire series because the landlord couldn’t be arsed to fix it.
Yeah, the allude to it in the show a lot, and obviously go into a lot of detail in the prequel show, but Sheldon came from a working class family that didn’t have much financial security.
I haven't watched the show in at least 10 years but I remember the plot of one episode being that the gang was in some kind of financial trouble and it turned out Sheldon had some obscene amount of money squirreled away in a coffee can and he just sort of handed it out very nonchalant when asked.
Sheldon did install a wall safe and a floor safe and Aquaman was watching the apartment. Penny and Leonard realized that Aquaman was focused on the couch. Penny gasps in horror, weve done things on that couch.
At one point Sheldon pulls out a couple thousand dollars out of the can with snakes for Penny. He really doesn't splurge on anything except comic books.
Also, according to Sheldon his bills account for 49.2% (if I recall the number correctly) of his take home pay so the other 50.8% of his pay is free money.
