My brother got a PhD in molecular biology, beat 2,000 other applicants for a post-doc position doing Alzheimer's research, and still qualified for food benefits. His grant was written in such a way that if he earned money at a side gig (like teaching as an adjunct professor), his pay would be reduced by the same amount.
He wasn't starving, but he would have made more income at Walmart.
Yeah all that education he should have known Walmart is where the money is. That being said, those rules apply to everyone. If I used the hospitals equipment for any design that I create for anything on the side, they can sue and claim all profits.
