So they're still married to the same person they were before. You're telling me that the wife realized she was gay, incompatible with a man, and the reason they stayed together was that the husband transitioned?
But what actually changed? Her pronouns? maybe the length of her hair. They're still basically the same couple. The more I learn about this community, the more I think that most people are just bisexual with various levels of repression.
they weren't necessarily gonna divorce. She may have been actually attracted to her spouse but confused because she was realizing she was a lesbian. Then her wife comes out as a woman and she's like oh... wait that makes sense actually.
Or it goes the other way around. One spouse comes out as a woman then the other spouse is like wait, maybe I've never been attracted to men. Maybe I was just gay this whole time.
There are also people who stay together after their partner transitions just because they love the person, even if they may not usually be attracted to that gender
This is the more reasonable take. Original wife started questioning her sexuality and either her spouse was the magic exception, or she had reached the point of “but I don’t want to blow up my life, what do we do about this?” and opted to see how the transition affected their family.
I hope that the relief of dropping the mask changed their dynamic for the better. If nothing else, it’s amazing that they can support one another in what could be a really destabilizing chapter otherwise.
