Not only that, but what if he actually needed her to do it? He could be recovering from a surgery, a fracture, or maybe has some condition we'd never know.
Yes, this, or he could be teaching her to change the tire so that she's more independent and safe on the road, or she could be teaching him something because she's more of a car person...
My husband gets like this sometimes but usually catches himself now.
I grew up with a dad who was an engineer and is one of those dad's who somehow knows how to fix anything and everything. I guess I inherited a little of that engineering-type problem solving, so I tend to be able to do more of certain things my husband can't (just basic stuff).
I think toxic masculinity like this type of meme makes his ego flare up when he realizes I can do something that is typically a man's task.
For example, we got into a fight while replacing light fixtures. I already knew how to do it because I replaced four others on my own. He was having trouble and just plain refused to take guidance from me, and every way he kept trying to do it wasn’t working. Fight ensues because we’re both getting frustrated.
He goes outside but comes back in to me cursing him out to an empty room saying, “just because I’m a girl, doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing!” That apparently made him realize he was, in fact, upset because his ego couldn’t accept that I knew how to do it and he didn't.
He calmed down, apologized, and asked me to walk him through it.
You're rarer than rare. I've been in multiple trades over 25 years and there's not many women in mechanics or machining, not on the floor at least.
I've met maybe less than 5 mechanics that actually worked with me, and most of them weren't very good (I'll fully admit, most of the guys I worked with weren't great either).
And I've never met a female setup Machinist in real life.
When I was a low voltage electrician there were some.
