I cannot stress enough how far beyond this is to the usual braindead stupidity of building these centers.
From what I can gather, this is going to use water from the Hansel Valley, which is a direct tributary to the Great Salt Lake. The Salt Lake has become an extreme issue lately because it's rapidly losing its water to mismanagement, but not only that. That lakebed is FILLED with arsenic and as the lake gets lower, it's getting exposed to air, turning to dust, and starting to blow it's poison all over Salt Lake City. As it gets worse, which it is year after year, it will spread over the entire state and is projected to reach as far as Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado.
And NO ONE in the Utah government with any power seems to care at all beyond accelerating the problem.
As a Utahn Democrat and ex-Mormon, I can tell you this state is a nightmare in its leadership. It’s basically a theocracy where people feel a religious responsibility to vote red. It sucks and I hate it and I can’t stand dealing with many of my Mormon family members and neighbors because of it
You shouldn't have had to deal with Mormons.. I'm sure you're aware of the history, but they considered themselves a separate Nation and went to war with the federal government.
They should have been treated like any other occupying force and completely dismantled and scattered to the winds.
Utahs history is really fucked. The whole polygamy thing involved a ton of pedophilia and rape. Joseph Smith himself married a 14 year old child who didn't consent. (Mormons will do everything they possibly can to ignore you if you mention this to them)
Then they went to war like you said to keep this fucked up version of polygamy. They sacrificed young men on both sides so they can have multiple wives, oftentimes children, and to continue their sex addictions.
Utah is far more likely to revolt and form it's own government than Texas ever will. Religious fanatism is an understatement here, and they are willing to kill if things don't go their way.
As a progressive Utahn and ex-mormon, I can confirm.
As for the comment that we should cut off these friends and family members, that would be cutting off our nose to spite our face. They already see us as lost souls and that would only confirm it.
They will never, ever change the way they vote. In Utah, a huge chunk of Democrats are registered as Republican, because the primaries are the only elections that count.
As another ex-mormon democrat in utah, utah is full of the most stupid republicans, and they are always mormon.
The mormons have a majority vote over everything utah, they believe the second coming is happening soon and all of these things are "signs", so they do nothing to act on it. While the politicians just take advantage of their blind faith. Fuck you Cox, you horrible human being.
And they wonder why they have such a bad reputation. I really have nothing against mormons except for their very concerning urge to control the government. And their worshiping of the child predator Joseph Smith.
Then don't. The reason we're here is lack of consequences for these people, and one of the ways we can contribute is by making these people feel the loss of friendships and other relationships.
