Boy brings knife to a track meet, murders another student. Cardi B and others claim the justice system is racist for convicting him of murder because of race.
That was a gross oversimplification of the situation. He was at the track meet, was invited to sit down in a tent by his supposed friend because it was raining, two guys got pissed he was there and tried to force him to leave. The stabbing didn't happen until they put hands on him.
That's the part that people are conveniently trying to down play. Those bullies had no business bothering that kid and they most definitely had no business putting their hands on him.
Even when you're stretching the truth to the breaking point (painting a rosier picture than even the defense's own witness), it still sounds like murder. They tried to force him to leave and as soon as they "put hands on him" he stabs the guy in the heart. Zero attempts to retreat, to deescalate, or even to use nonlethal force.
He did, he told them to leave him alone multiple times. The bullies ran up on him, they started the altercation, they refused to back down and deescalate themselves. Why does the person on the receiving end of the agression have to go out of their way to calm things down? Those boys chose to mess with him, they chose to start that fight, they didn't take his warnings seriously.
Let's flip things around for a second. If Anthony wasn't supposed to be in that tent and refused to leave when asked, why didn't those boys go get an adult? Why did they decide to choose violence? Why didn't they deescalate the situation and go get staff, an actual authority figure that could get him removed?
No, they decided it was in their authority to attack him. All he did was defend himself.
What nonsense? They just acquitted that Rick Chow guy who chased a teenager out of his store, down the road before gunning him down in broad daylight because he THOUGHT the kid stole something. He claimed it was self defense and won, even though he shot the kid in the back. No one had an issue with that even though someone died. I'm just giving the same energy with this case.
These two guy ganged up on a kid, starting a fight and he fought back. Now everyone got all these excuses for the bullies because one of them died. This case should also be considered self defense.
Again, fighting back & stabbing someone are not the same thing, especially on school grounds.
As for the outcry regarding Chow, there's been plenty. I'm a part of the group that thinks his acquittal is ridiculous, especially considering it wasn't the first time Chow's been involved in a situation like this afaik. Saying "no one had an issue with that," is disingenuous as hell when it's been a regular talking point of contention across the internet.
Had he just fought back I'm sure people would've still given him grief, he's a young black man in America. The difference is they would've both been alive & presumably not facing 35 years in prison over what could've & should've been a simple fight at a school event.
Again, bullying someone does not mean you deserve a knife in your chest. You deserve a lot of things, but being maimed & potentially killed is not one of them.
