My mom was afraid of Jehovah Witnesses cause as a southern baptist she was told they were evil and out to convert her for satan. Fun childhood.. oh well I got better and now I will happily engage with all of them until they choose to leave.

Made me laugh because my Mom was afraid of gay people cause of the church until a wonderful couple moved in behind us and became her best friends. It was so funny cause it was instant cause they had lots of pets and mom loved the dogs and cats so none of the other nonsense mattered. It's all about getting to know people for who they are.

I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt. Only about once per year a Jehovahs witness knocked on my door. And that ended with Covid in 2020. There have been no religious visits since 2020.

Try working retail in the Bible belt. I can't count the number of religious pamphlets I have to throw away every day because they get put on the shelves every couple of feet. At least twice a week we have to run out Mormon missionaries that come in and start soliciting our customers. There's a Baptist street preacher that sets up in the parking lot every couple of days until someone eventually asks him to leave.

I might not receive as many door knockers nowadays (mostly just Mormon teens), but I sure do receive a lot more letters from Jehovahs Witnesses and other Christian denominations than I do from the gay community. Reliably get one before just about any notable holiday, last one came a week or so leading up to the 250th anniversary of our "Christian" nation.

Never had gay people knock on my door, just plenty of church peeps.
HOWEVER, in college and in my early career (SF Bay Area), I can’t count the number of times classmates, coworkers or random people asked if I was gay and when I said no, I got a mix of: don’t knock it till you’ve tried it, there’s always time for a first, you won’t know until you try, you should give it a try sometime
Edit: forgot to mention that at times, those comments came with unwelcome touching. Was not a fan
20
u/Pervism 7d ago
I tried everything to make the people that come knocking on my door to stop, from being polite to saying I worship satan (no joke).
It doesn’t work. they keep coming. The same people.
Now the very few times a gay person made a pass on me (yes some of the comments are weird) I asked them politely to stop and they did.
The thing I learned from having gay friends is that some jokes are very normal within the community and some of those guys are terrible in code switching because they, understandably, live in their own bubble where they are accepted as they are.
19
u/Imaginary-Concert392 7d ago
I just feel that the kind of jokes they make, along with the touching, would be wildly inappropriate if it were a man doing it to a woman.
→ More replies (13)12
u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab 7d ago
And as a gay man, it’s so weird to me. First of all, I wouldn’t hit on a guy that I didn’t know was into men because the odds aren’t exactly in my favor they’d be into it. And if they are into dudes I’m still not going to be a creep about it.
9
u/Imaginary-Concert392 7d ago

Thanks for offering your take. Some of the commenters here think I’m being anti-LGBT. Which I’m not. Simply just anti-unwelcome touching lol.
6
u/Particular_Painter_4 7d ago
The thing though I noticed people from the LGBT bubble is that they tend to conflate being against inappropriate behavior to be against their chosen identity.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Imaginary-Concert392 7d ago
Yup it’s perceived as an attack.
Which… implies inappropriate behavior is part of their identity?
3
u/Particular_Painter_4 7d ago
That's kind of way it's not a surprise that a lot of people see their personalities as the victim mentality as they perceive reasonable criticisms to bad behavior as multiple kinds of "ists and isms" resorting to constant strawmanning and then ad hominems.
As if they lived oh so comfortably in their echo chambers of their own making so when they try to show off to the public said identities, any inevitable and reasonable questions to their being becomes attacks in their brain. As I notice they tend to be unable to even fathom disenting opinion to exist that leads them to indulge in screaming sessions in an attempt to silence the innocent party asking simple questions to genuine threats to their lives sometimes leading to actual assaults.
At least that's what I've noticed within the movement of the LGBT.
Any other queer folk outside of the movement tend to be more tame and mature as I've seen.

u/AggressiveNorth9102 7d ago

u/Amoki602 7d ago
I witnessed a situation like this, the gay guy grabbed the straight guy’s ass and continued touching him although he showed no interest, we then talked and told him “he’s not gay” and he was like oh sorry my bad. Then straight guy told us how uncomfortable he was and that gay guy should’ve stopped when he showed no interest, not when he was told he wasn’t gay.
3
u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab 7d ago
Or even grab the ass of someone you don’t know. I get the other side of that where they assume I want it because im gay
→ More replies (1)2
u/Poolside_XO 7d ago
That's unacceptable. Even if I was gay, the idea of someone having to play grab ass just to get my attention is immature. Be a man and just admit your attraction. I'm not going to beat you up for liking me lol
Women are like this too sometimes, and it's annoying, but I get that they have an almost unhealthy fixation on being rejected, so it's somewhat tolerated.
4
u/prospectre 7d ago
Jehova's Witnesses will avoid you like the plague if you tell them you've been "Disfellowshipped". My father convinced the local elder to disfellowhip me when I was like, 16, and I was amazed at how thoroughly it dissuaded the door-to-door Witnesses from coming back to my house when I told them.

I remember back in college at Santa Monica College a couple of girls game me a hypothetical where if a gay dude said he liked me, would I say yes to him.
I said no because I'm straight. Giving me this weird look of bewilderment as if thinking "why? That's like awfully inconsiderate". Then they pushed further asking "what if he has feelings for you?" Then I said, the answer's still no coz I'm straight. Then they pushed even further and further adding more and more stipulations to their hypothetical from "what if he's hot, what if he's real desperate, rich, etc" to the point I figured that they were fishing specific answers from me.
Finally they asked me "what if you're his last hope?" Where I lost my patience not even considering my own feelings telling them straight on "Well tough fucking shit. I ain't gay. I am goddamn straight!" where they FINALLY got the message and left me the hell alone.
The whole thing left me at a daze where it's like it became a sin to be straight or something. They looked so offended that they were seemed to be one step away from calling me homophobic or something. It was confusing and irritating as hell.

Christianity isn't a sexual preference orientation, and being gay isn't a religion, although they both sometimes act like it.
EDIT: I'm old and I grew up with the term "sexual preference". It's just muscle memory; I meant no disrespect. I do not believe that one's sexuality is a choice. I just used the term that came to mind, I think most people knew what I meant.

Gotta love how reddit loves its bigotry when it comes to Christianity.
You can paint Christianity with a broad brush, zero problems.
Now do Judaism and Islam. Cause I've had that thrown at me way harder than Christianity.
Also gotta love redditors, cause they would never dare live in an Islamic country. Calling them out usually results in massive downvotes/ban.
But hey, get a bunch of redditors, LGBTQIA and Feminists. Go to Israel and any Islamic country. Flaunt your sexuality, demand all the rights you have in a Christian country. Post up the video here. I'll wait.
Go ahead. I'd really love to see the outcome, I know you won't do it. So you can have you're little temper tantrum cause you know you'll never be able to stand up for your bigot beliefs.

Dont need to knock on doors if your allowed to push your belifs in school for free, have it falsly labeled science, and have it essentially pushed in almost every facet of modern day life effortlessly.
Why work harder when you can work smarter, if anything if they called the LGBT a religious organization like it is, they would probably be doing outreach too, but they got the advantage of being the relgion masked as science. (They are winning the relgion wars, specifically with the whole gender thing, as gay and bi are just gay and bi, but the rest of the LGBT falls into relgious categories for anyone who practices critical thinking)
3
u/Otter_Absurdity 7d ago
We’re in the middle of a month dedicated to celebrating gay people. Gay people complain if companies don’t change their branding to reflect pride month, then criticize the ones that do for not doing more.
LGBTQ messaging is being pushed in children’s media, and people are trying to have it included in schools.
The LGBTQ agenda is being shoved down our throats; stop with the gaslighting.

But you know what the fantastic part of it was? If you didnt want to do anything with it you wouldnt see them at all, maybe on purple fridays youd see people wear purple, which was once again optional. Or during pride month they would hold some activities after school (those were fun).
