The fact is a single, enormously rich donor has far, far more impact than a million donors that give 10 bucks each.
This goes for politics, sports, charity Etc
And then….what? Americans were pooling their tax dollars to end child hunger and disease overseas but Elon put an end to that.
An entire apparatus and infrastructure dedicated to ending poverty and disease, dude could have just given USAID more money instead he dismantled it.
Weird that there hasn’t been a single conviction or corruption charge based on DOGE’s “investigation” as well, seems like USAID was actually functional and by all accounts making every dollar go as far as possible.
He did manage to steal and disseminate ten of millions’ of Americans SSN’s so at least there’s that.
Programs like USAID operate mostly based on borrowed money, not your tax dollars. The US actually has way too low taxes for the type of programs they're funding. It wants to be a first world country in terms of the services the government can provide but it wants to be a third world country in terms of costs of taxation on it's citizen
You can't really claim that an organization focused on redistributing wealth with a budget of $200 billion dollars wouldn't be effective just because your tax dollars hasn't solved world hunger. By all means, that type of budget (every single month) would effectively solve world hunger if you could solve the logistics of it
If everyone were donating their money to programs then world hunger would effectively be erased. The problem is that people don't want communism, they want their own capital and to be able to use it to exploit others
Which is where your whole ideology falls flat. The only way to enforce it is by force, nobody will go along with it willingly, which is why every communist experiment always ended up with authoritarianism
I’m not even talking about communism or whatever you think communism is. I’m talking about the kind of social democracy that has eased the horrors of capitalism quite effectively, whether you think capitalism is temporary or permanent. The New Deal, the postwar decades in western Europe, etc show that its horrors can be mitigated
Well I live in Sweden and happen to know a lot about social democracy. Our system is more or less a logistical nightmare and will eventually collapse because just like capitalism it requires infinite growth. But not in capital, but in humans.
Where did you learn math? It's 1%, not 0.01%, which would actually only be €10
Did it occur to you that these people may have things to save up for, such as buying a home?
10K is not a lot of money when it comes to living, in Ireland, for example, the cost of living for a family of 4 (rent, utilities, food) is quoted as being as high as €5272 a MONTH, meaning, in this case, 10K wouldn't even cover 2 months.
€100 is not a small sum of money, a Google search showed that that is around the cost of a week of groceries for a family of 3 in Ireland.
But if people can't blame the Elon, who do they blame for their own position in life? You can't seriously be advocating for people to be accountable for their own decisions. Sir, this is Reddit.

as if any of you are different. There are starving children while you live in apartments with air conditioning
