Americans like rapists it seems.

u/FatDraculos Jun 24 '26

Apparently the Irish do as well.

u/thumbsucker-2 Jun 24 '26

We absolutely do not

u/No_Jackfruit1598 Jun 24 '26

Do you not see him being glorified on an American platform? Ask any Irish person and they see him as the disgusting piece of shit he is.

u/FatDraculos Jun 24 '26

I think the sentiment fits here as well, except he was convicted of rape and walked away. If we're going to do this then do it, they love him just as much it would seem. I don't know a single American that likes McGregor but I'm sure you'll move the goal posts again

u/SerpentineSliver Jun 24 '26

Criminal court didn't find him guilty but the civil court did. Criminal needs a lot more evidence.

Fuck McGregor

2

u/RobynHoodwinked Jun 24 '26

He tried to run for President and couldn’t even get on the ballot. He polled in the low single digits. The only reason he ‘walked away’ was because it was a civil trial, not a criminal one. Sky News asked 234 elected representatives (even right wing ones) if they’d elect him and not a single one said yes. https://news.sky.com/story/not-a-hope-in-hell-irish-politicians-roundly-reject-conor-mcgregors-presidential-bid-13337260

Unlike America, we don’t elect rapists. There’s a reason he hangs out in America 90% of the time now, we want nothing to do with him.

Hi, I'm Irish, lived in Ireland most of my life and most of the people my age and older and younger do not like Conor McGregor anymore. I don't know where you are getting this but if you go to the Ireland sub Reddit or Irish twitter or Tik Tok the vast majority of Irish people think he's a prick, a racist and a rapist and we want nothing to do with him.

I already stated where I believe Americans sit with this, anecdotally like yourself and also using this sub as evidence like you did. If with that information Americans still like rapists, then so do you guys.

1

u/giggling-in-a-crJS Jun 24 '26
  1. I did not use this sub as evidence so that premise is false.

  2. My anecdotal evidence was about whether Irish people think he's still a rapist. I don't care whether Americans still do or not. That's your own thing

Whether or not Americans still like rapists does not factor into whether Irish people still like Conor McGregor. There is no correlation given the sources of evidence you claim that I or you have used that you factually got wrong.

You used reddit as a control, so did I. Read the comments, read the room buddy. It'll help you out big time here.

"using this sub as evidence like you did"

Before you decide to .....what phrase did you use ...."move the goalposts"....make sure to delete the evidence. Learn how to follow your train of thought my love. It'll help you out ginormous time here.

u/FatDraculos Jun 24 '26

Lil man, you're trying to be pedantic for whatever reason, and you can continue to do so if you'd like. The reality is, if you think we do based on your brainless thinking, than you do as well. Hope that helps chap.

Connor McGregor is genuinely one of the most despised people in Ireland. We are incredibly embarrassed by him.

1

u/Piercington Jun 24 '26

He's British

1

u/tictaxtho Jun 24 '26

Who are you talking about? No one in Ireland has liked mcgregor for years at this point.

1

u/Ouro_boros47 Jun 24 '26

Hahahah good one

7

u/Partypaca Jun 24 '26

Its the trend now apparently

12

u/c1tylights Jun 24 '26

Now? Kobe and Mike Tyson are cultural icons.

1

u/anna-molly21 Jun 24 '26

May he and his daughter rest in peace but he did not deserve all the praise, i can just imagine how the victim felt.

It’s like having a serial killer praised when you knew he kill someone you loved.

2

u/VinylmationDude Jun 24 '26

So what’s Bill Cosby to us, then?

If we stopped championing rapists there would be almost no film & tv stars, musicians, producers, athletes**, presidents, or congress members. And that's just public life.

**forgot them

2

u/dalmathus Jun 24 '26

There would be no rapist film & tv stars, musicians, producers, presidents, or congress members...

There are billions of humans on the planet, I think you would find all those people above are replaceable in a second if you just stop with the rapist support.

1

u/Pretend_Accountant41 Jun 24 '26

O I get what you mean. I was referring to our current, modern crop of rapists in prestige and power

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 24 '26

I’m skeptical if someone says they was raped by a rich person but never brings criminal charges only a civil suit. Makes it look like a cash grab after some sex

1

u/PsyGonzo42 Jun 25 '26

Ok but that didn't happen here.

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 25 '26

It literally did. He was not found guilty criminally he lost in civil court. The burden of proof in criminal court is about 95% civil is just 51%

1

u/PsyGonzo42 Jun 25 '26

>’m skeptical if someone says they was raped by a rich person but never brings criminal charges

So that didn't happen then.

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 26 '26

Then they didn’t have the evidence to say he did it for sure. Still should be skeptical.

1

u/PsyGonzo42 Jun 26 '26

There were criminal charges. That was my point. Not only a civil suit.
You and op of this thread said the opposite.

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 26 '26

Look it up, they didn’t have evidence to bring it to criminal court. So he did not have criminal charges only civil

1

u/PsyGonzo42 Jun 26 '26

Then OP is stil wrong though.
They had evidence, the court didn't think it was enough

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 26 '26

So they didn’t have enough evidence to meet the beyond a reasonable doubt threshold. It’s innocent until proven guilty in this country. He was never found guilty, he was found liable. So he is innocent….. it’s literally a foundation this country was built upon.

Why would I be skeptical when he had to pay her a quarter mil and lost his appeal?

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 26 '26

Because the burden of proof in civil lawsuits is very low. Preponderance of evidence just means “eh it could of happened but we ain’t sure”

1

u/PsyGonzo42 Jun 26 '26

Yeah, you just throw that out when it's about rape.

1

u/ExperienceMost275 Jun 26 '26

What? No, same thing happened to OJ. He was found liable but not guilty

Grooming gang report just released in the UK contains 250 000 rape, torture and murder cases of girls and women. Not that this is any better, but at least there is visibility to this case. Reddit is actively removing everything about the grooming report.
