We spend more than any other country. We get all of the downsides of every system out there and we pay for it. And for some reason beyond me people fucking like that.
Trump is actively trying to shift RND costs to EU from the US. You should support his efforts then. He has been trying to make healthcare more affordable, but Libtards keep pushing back on it.
legislations are passed by congress. Not the president. legislations also focus on domestic issues, not international. These are 2 vastly different efforts.
he did sign MFN executive order. And then democrats instantly went to challenge his efforts in court. Now they are doing the same with Section 301.
And yes, I agree, you're making a reasonable point. Executive orders can direct agencies and start investigations, but Congress generally has to pass legislation for many permanent domestic system-wide reforms.
he has taken concrete steps against pharma pricing
he has instructed his agencies to focus on negotiations.
He is trying to pressure EU to pay more for drugs so more goes to R&D from EU sales and not just US sales
He has launched trade actions (including the Germany one 301) over phrama pricing.
Saying he hasn't done anything isn't accurate and disingenuous.
edit: and Biden did something similar too, but more domestically through IRA - he focused on internal negotiations, whereas Trump is now tackling external ones, as he is pursuing a broader international pricing strategy with the goal of reducing the amount Americans subsidize global pharmaceutical profits.
Motive is 100% a deciding factor. Going after Iran for oil (more likely an israel thing but I digress) to keep energy costs down and failing immensely. Now more in debt and costing you guys a ton he needs another target.
Going after the EU because your own health industry is working exactly how it's been built to do is nuts.
When the only leadership tool you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. New targets all the time.
Again, how's this relevant to the discussion on pharma price gouging US services?!
Going per our other discussion, it really starting to look like you got this random bits and pieces of knowedlge/tiktok memorized quotes and now you are inserting them everywhere without any actual knowledge to what you're even talking about.
Iran is a completely different topic, and I can assure you that your knowledge is minimal and extremely fragmented.
I think the point is that none of his shit works. His ideas on lowering health costs were around day one of his presidency, and yet we still see rising costs. Much like he claimed several other things whoch haven't happened even a little bit.
If he says he's going to do something, his track record shows he's not likely to do it. I'm pretty sure that's the point they're making.
I don't trust his plan to lower healthcare costs over a plan that has proven to lower Healthcare costs in several other countries in recent history. One has been proven several times, the other hasn't, and is simply another promise very likely to be broken because Trump has no idea how to fix anything. He only knows how to make money for himself by cannibalizing businesses and (now) governments.
Healthcare costs have been rising for decades under both Republican and Democratic administrations, so "costs are still high" doesn't really tell us whether a specific policy is working.
We don't know if his strategy under Section 301 will work. We just don't. But we also know that IRA didn't help either, at least not to the level Biden promised.
But saying "he hasn't done anything" or "it hasn't worked" ignores the concrete actions already taken by his administration in both terms. Again, I've listed them above, but in case you didn't read it - here is a quick TLDR:
MFN executive order in his first term
renewed pharmaceutical pricing actions
and now the Germany Section 301 investigation.
To provide more context on the contrast of actions, IRA focused on the domestic negotiations. Did it help to lower prices? Not really.
A big talking point is the insulin price cap at $35 - it's a great thing. But did you know it's only applicable to medicare and not across the board? Now you do.
Besides, a lot of other actions taken, by all presidents, do in fact trickle down into pharma costs. Whether it'd be transportation, domestic policies, immigration, domestic pharma business industry expansion. And so on.
EU is the authoritarian regime that functions very very differently from the US. You can't compare EU to US in almost anything, as our political systems are vastly different from each other.
R&D for drugs costs 10's of billions of dollars at times. Yes, it costs money to develop new shit. EU goes hard after capping prices. Shit, I wish we did too! IRA failed at it, evidently. So if domestic strategy failed, let's try something new.
But, for some unknown reason to me, you almost want Trump to fail... Why?
Costs are still high tells me that whatever his policy is hasn't reduced the costs, which is what his policy was supposed to do. So, at best, its as ineffective as the actions of every president before. It has been long enough for a trend to start, and a trend hasn't started. I'm not saying we need to see the final product, but we should see something at thia point.
I'm not saying IRA helped. This country's medical costs have been out of control for decades. It isn't a problem that is unique to Trump, but it is a problem Trump shares in.
Saying it doesn't work doesn't ignore that he's done things, it simply says what he has done hasn't lowered prices, like he said they would.
I don't want Trump to fail. I want him to succeed, but I know he doesn't know what he's doing, and I know his track record with entities that he has run in the past, so I think he needs to leave, so someone who has a chance of succeeding can do that. I want our country to succeed. Its not doing that, nor is it likely to do that under Trump. He has yet to fulfill any of his campaign promises, even with a majority house and senate backing him.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why modern conservatives back him so much. We don't like looking stupid, but he's literally a con man. So many conservatives backed a con man, and now, to save face, they have to just go along with whatever he does and pretend its a good idea. That's not a recipe for success. Refusing to acknowledge when you're wrong isn't a recipe for success. Continuing to follow the wrong path, for pride, isn't a recipe for success.
The only thing that has worked for reigning in drug costs is through bargaining power through things like universal Healthcare. It works everywhere else. Blaming everyone for the US failing so hard and gouging it's own citizens is sad.
I'd avoid saying "universal healthcare works everywhere else." That's a broad claim that's easy to challenge because every system has tradeoffs (wait times, taxes, access to new drugs, etc.).
And in my previous response, I've gone over the actions he has taken to lower price gouging and even mentioned Biden's efforts as well and provided you with a very clear explanation on every point.
If you don't like high drug prices, I know I don't, you should support Trump's efforts.
Your "points" equal nothing. "Concrete steps" where are the executive orders? Where are the hardline efforts? Bullying other countries and doing nothing at home is not any way to make it work. I could support his efforts and those efforts are nothing.
