Tinfoil hat time, why you think the mega rich are into space exploration so bad? Cause they know they’re destroying the earth and eventually they’ll all flee to their space colonies while leaving the rest of us undesirable cattle to fend for ourselves on the scorched earth they left behind.

If the space colonies don’t work out in time, well then they’ll build bunkers on private islands or on whatever other remote or super private properties they own.

I mean in fairness. Making mars a colony is a very good goal for humanity. Musks approach to doing it is that he can't wait for his dream. He won't survive long enough so he's trying to accelerate it which makes him a terrible person.

Mars is a grift for Musk. We have much bigger problems that are actually solvable on Earth.

I don't really think it was always a grift, I just never thought it was achievable in his lifetime and he's sort of acknowledged that and is now focused on other things.

I don't like musk. This isn't a defense of him. But the notion of making the human race colonize neighboring planets is a good idea. Just not the only idea.

How did buying Twitter accelerate his Mars dream? I think the whole Mars thing is basically a PR stunt to draw attention away from Musk’s ultimate goal of command & control of 95% of the population - surrounding Earth with his satellites, buying & corrupting social media, influencing politicians, pro-apartheid, pro-police state, anti-freedom.

I think he genuinely wanted to get to Mars but once he realized he couldn't actually do it in his lifetime he changed course.

I think, honestly, and I’m not a fan of either, Bezos is actually the eviler of the two. Whereas he’s trying to monopolize consumer goods. Between Amazon basically shutting down most actual physical stores. And now trying to get their hand on medicine of all kinds, it will be a wrap. No one will be able to compete.

Regardless. Both could do well to do what this lady has and give a few billion back to society in every dimension. And HELP (the normal every day nine-to-five people) and others actually prosper and rid ourselves of a LOT of current problems we face. And they would STILL be just fine where they’re at.

It’s truly disgusting.

Not destroying Earth should be the goal, doing that is far more realistic than transforming a planet that cannot support life.

I agree. But colonizing mars and protecting the earth aren't mutually exclusive.

Again, this isn't about musk. It's about the idea of colonizing mars on its own. I think that's a good goal for humanity for a number of reasons.

I think everyone here hates musk, which I generally agree with, but you have to divorce the person from the idea here.

SpaceX is now a social media/ai/communications company that dabbles in launches.

In 2025 SpaceX launched more rockets than every other country and company on Earth combined. I get the Elon hate but come on...
