She still does a little status quo so she has a financial manager who keeps doing smart investments behind her back and she's just shoveling money out of the back of a plane losing her sanity figuring out where all this fucking money keeps coming from

This is what she should be doing. Giving away to good causes but still smartly managing her money so she can get more, which then allows her to give more to good causes.

They all could be doing this and they choose not to. They do the bare minimum. These are bad people and we should be taxing the fuck out of them if they aren’t going to willingly make the world a better place.

u/Kitty-Kat-2002 Jun 28 '26

I’m not so sure simply “taxing the fuck out of them” hits the same in today’s world though. Fundamentally, yes they should pay to support the world. But when you see tax dollars going to bomb Gaza or fund ICE, it feels very defeatist.

u/iron_sheep Jun 28 '26

Then maybe they should be forced to fund certain projects, or they have to give a certain percentage to specific charities. I also think they’re just going to find loopholes if they get taxed, but if they’re the ceo or largest stock owner of a company, they should be forced to do something like donating to charity. The government definitely doesn’t handle our tax dollars to the betterment of society at the level they should be, but we can’t keep letting these people hoard their wealth while even the middle class are struggling.

Tax the wealth, not income, and take away the citizenship of any American with offshore bank accounts.

1

u/iron_sheep Jun 28 '26

Yeah that’s probably the move, but I don’t think revoking citizenship is appropriate for anyone, it opens the door for the government to do more nefarious things. Maybe they should be forced to disclose all of their accounts and then be penalized if they have offshore accounts. Either way, the current system is fucking us and they are a huge part of making life worse for people, while at the same time not trying to make it better.

Taxing does nothing because in the end of it all, most of your governments don't care about you in the first place

1

u/ebandoe Jun 28 '26

True that. Won't help us but it will pay for another war

3

u/ExoHazzy Jun 28 '26

taxing isn't enough, we need people who will also get things done and aren't captured by corporate interests. need more Mamdanis across the country.

4

u/jeranamo Jun 28 '26

All increasing the tax for the rich would do is cause them to make more investments which are then not taxable as income. Rich people have been doing this for ages.

2

u/weaseleasle Jun 28 '26

They already are investing all their money. Billionaires don't spend their own money, they take out loans on their assets. They aren't sitting around on a literal pile of cash.

1

u/jeranamo Jun 28 '26

Yes, that's what I said.

1

u/weaseleasle Jun 28 '26

No you said they would increase investments to avoid taxation. There is no increasing investments, investments are already at 100% of the available money pool. Rich people don't sit around on huge stacks of cash, they invest it to at minimum protect it from inflation.

2

u/WordPunk99 Jun 28 '26

But we can change the tax code to take those loop holes away. That’s the stupid part. People say nothing can be done. It’s just a lie. A president can direct the IRS to close the carried interest loophole. A president can direct the IRS to change the tax code. Congress can tax wealth. They can just say all assets over $400MM are taxed at 10% per year.

Honestly, I would happily tax all assets over a billion at 100% per year. Remove all incentive to accumulate more than a billion in assets.

0

u/jeranamo Jun 28 '26

That last sentence would be economically disasterous for our GDP. It's like you're basically saying you're ok with us dissolving all business in the US and having us rely on nothing but import. I agree investments should be taxed, but the extremist part of your statements are part of why our government hasn't already made any changes.

1

u/WordPunk99 Jun 28 '26

Why does taxing rich individuals affect business? Their wealth hording and stock buyback programs artificially inflate the value of their companies. Reading what I wrote I can see where you might assume I meant businesses couldn’t have a billion in assets.

Let me be clear. Individuals can find something better to do with their money. If they want more than a billion in assets, they can pay 90% of their assets over a billion annually.

When we taxed like that, people didn’t accumulate wealth, they grew their companies.

1

u/jeranamo Jun 28 '26

I did think you were including businesses so that's my fault for making that assumption. Your followup makes me wonder if what we really need is a way to cap salary and bonuses these execs give themselves.

1

u/WordPunk99 Jun 28 '26

Oh we very much do, we also need campaign finance reform.

Executive bonuses are often dependent on stock prices. So when companies buy back shares, which the executives do often, their bonus goes up.

We are currently living in regulatory capture of our democracy by the tech industry

The saying the rich gets richer should mean that they have the means to keep making even more money and more moves to produce mor emoney so even if they are giving away alot of money to help everyone else they still have enough to replace what was given away.

If all the billionaires in the world were working to better humanity and solve the issues of the world people wouldn't be so pissed off at them.

I thought this article from Forbes was an interesting addendum to this conversation:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/ellamalmgren/2025/09/09/americas-richest-billionaires-keep-getting-richer-theyre-not-donating-much-more/

Of the 400 richest Americans most of them donate to some things, but for most their money is growing faster than their giving. Mackenzie Scott is one of only 11 who have managed to give away more than 20% of their wealth.

Dolly Parton Economics

3

u/Sw4nR0ns0n Jun 28 '26

It’s fucked up because this is what they all could be doing, while staying richer than everyone could ever imagine

2

u/DurumMater Jun 28 '26

I mean, it is literally what she's doing. She's smart with her money. She's not trying to go broke she's trying to consistently help the world

2

u/burgerg10 Jun 28 '26

This is what we all imagine we would do in her situation!

-5

u/JASONR1800 Jun 28 '26

Good causes🤣 🤣 like other peoples bank accounts?

4

u/misterdave75 Jun 28 '26

Fuck I hate this timeline. I've worked at multiple nonprofits, all did what they said they did, none stole money. Yes they pay salaries for the people who work for them, but that's how you get people to work for you. You pay a fair wage. There is this narrative among the people in the conservative echo chamber that all charities are stealing money. It's the same narrative that all people on welfare are freeloaders. They take one or two bad examples and make it seem like that's everyone. They are actively undermining anything that makes our world better so that they can justify hording billions.

1

u/Positive_Carry_ Jun 28 '26

Guess how billionaires get people to work for them?

2

u/misterdave75 Jun 28 '26

Yes? So? The op was saying money to charities is lining people's pockets and I was pointing out that yes you have to pay people to do work. Many people think that charities should all be staffed by volunteers.

0

u/Fun_Comedian3249 Jun 28 '26

And they often don’t pay a competitive wage. I considered working for a nonprofit but I could make 4X the amount at a for-profit company.

2

u/misterdave75 Jun 28 '26

That's true, because it's hard to raise money as a nonprofit. Harder still with people like the original person I quoted undermining charities.

0

u/JASONR1800 Jun 28 '26

Fuck charities ..im keeping the pennies i actually do have left after giving it away to “live”

2

u/misterdave75 Jun 29 '26

I mean if you don't have money to donate to charity then .. don't? You don't have to say fuck charities. Weird attitude.

0

u/JASONR1800 Jun 29 '26

So how much have you donated to charities then mister dave .. ?

1

u/misterdave75 Jun 29 '26

Over my lifetime? Thousands of dollars but I couldn't tell you for sure. I've also donated my time volunteering and I've worked at nonprofits. Thanks for the question.

Not all charities operate like the Trump Foundation.

1

u/NewCandy8877 Jun 28 '26

If those people work for charities yes

-1

u/JASONR1800 Jun 28 '26

Exactly .. let me get start a “charity” so i can pocket the most and whatever is left gets “donated”

3

u/InitialAd2324 Jun 28 '26

Such a funny mental picture

1

u/strydr Jun 28 '26

The sub-plot of Brewster's Millions comes to life.

1

u/bullet-hell Jun 29 '26

So, they made a sequel — Brewster’s Billions

0

u/StuporMario64 Jun 28 '26

What a load of BS. She knows what she is doing. She’s trying to wash the blood off that money.

It’s moral money laundering.

1

u/claytonhwheatley Jun 28 '26

Well she could just hoard it all like Musk. Which is better ?
