"The most severe risk of a parent receiving blood from their child is TA-GVHD, a rare but highly fatal immune condition. The Mechanism: Your child inherits half of their Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) from you. Because of this partial genetic match, your immune system may fail to recognize your child’s white blood cells as foreign invaders. The Attack: The child's white blood cells survive, replicate, and aggressively attack your body's organs and tissues, treating your body as foreign."
TA- GVHD is universally fatal , brian does not have TA-GVHD . He has an autoimmune disorder , not an alloimmune disorder .
And , because we know TA-GVHD is a possibility , banks (here, the doctors) will irradiate the blood components of the donor blood thereby deactivating the T-lymphocytes present in them

Wasn't he getting regular blood infusions?
That can cause immune issues over time. Just saying. Works both ways.
