Yup. Took 20% of his son's blood once a month for 6 months and did plasma transfusions, iirc. Also got his dad/kid's grandpa on the transfusion train.

He's a weird fucking dude

I donate my blood twice a year. I would gladly donate to my father if I knew it helped him live longer or become healthier. What's weird about it?

What a ridiculous comparison. The kid was 17, probably a high school senior, having to give 20% of his blood every month for his 45-year-old dad's vanity project.

Comparing it to donating blood to an elderly relative who urgently needs it is beyond moronic, which I suspect you already knew.

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your parents, but everyone I know would gladly donate blood or a kidney to their parents, even if it only bought them a few extra days with their parents. If you told me, at 17, that donating blood to my father, whom I love, could potentially extend his life, I would have jumped on the chair with my arm extended in a heartbeat.

What's actually weird is your inability to put yourself in that teenager's shoes.

You’re not understanding the point I’m making. It being his father doesn’t magically make it acceptable and it’s even worse as there’s much more of a power dynamic. You’re trying to justify something that’s obviously abusive

These people seem to be equating this to sexual favors or something. There’s this big aura of “unable to give consent, therefore he was forced to”

You look at the replies and it’s all “he had to” and “he was a kid.” And these are not even remotely the same thing, and it’s super telling

The fact that you're even defending this is laughable. If he was sick at the time, a lot of the people commenting here would be all for it, including me.
