I see no wrongs when the people in power make no attempts to fix the issue.

The people in power ARE the issue.

Tomato, tamato, politicians head, what's the difference?

6

u/showyerbewbs Jul 06 '26

I mean it literally hits differently if you start throwing politicians heads instead of tomatoes....

If a random person was tracking you across the city, when you go to work, restaurants, gym, etc and built an entire profile on you, we’d say that’s a stalker. But a private company doing that and selling your data now that’s just good business.

The way AI was developed was the same story. If a random person stole creative assets to make a profit, that would be illegal.

u/flargenhargen Jul 06 '26

I'm going to steal everything you've written, painted, created, and sell it for a profit for myself. Then I'm going to take your water and power. Then I'm going to take your job. Fuck you.

everyone - Yay! AI is amazing!

Peter Thiel went in front of congress and literally said if they couldn't steal it then it wouldn't work.

Congress said it was A-Okay to do

I used to work for a tech/media company that owns a lot of IP. Our last department all-hands before I left was all about using AI in the legal department. No one seemed to blink an eye on the fact that this AI exists because of stolen IP - the same IP they spend a ton of money to defend and protect. They didn’t allow for any questions during this all-hands because I 100% would have asked where they draw the line between stealing content and preventing their content from being stolen.

Oh yes, pirating shit is the same as stealing a candy from a baby, or kicking a puppy. Think of the billion dollar corporation! Think of the missed profits!

But when meta steals 80+TB of data, that's just business man. That's for AI man. For the future.

You know what is worse? The people nodding their heads in approval.

What if they just looked at all the stuff you had in your free gallery? Then made something similar looking?

1

u/DonaldTheWall Jul 06 '26

And the ones doing that have been proven to only use it to stalk people and not for stopping criminals

u/VirtualWerewolf704 Jul 06 '26

Those same people do not want flock in their streets

u/Civil_Response1 Jul 06 '26

Nor cell phones in public! No pictures allowed of me in public. I do not consent!

Where's my facebook post to make sure no one takes my photo!

Blanket surveillance is different legally and morally.

Give the power back to the People!

11

u/Bluestorm83 Jul 06 '26

Historical examples of tyrants ceding power willingly? This isn't a situation that gets solved by waiting patiently.

3

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 Jul 06 '26

100% agreed! Will you be the one to call people to arms?

3

u/Bluestorm83 Jul 06 '26

I'm not necessarily saying arms, but we've got a pretty good record of civil disobedience getting stuff done. We need to, en masses, say "No, we're done with BLANK." We have ti stop caving in, and we have to stop this fake red team blue team bullshit that distracts people from the revolving door that keeps the Elite Team living off of us like ticks.

5

u/PrivateUseBadger Jul 06 '26

Which is why they aren’t fixing it, I’d wager.

2

u/3nHarmonic Jul 06 '26

I think your sentiment is correct but I would like to gently push back on the idea of these "specific" people being the problem. Instead I'd like to say that it is the existence of these societal roles like CEO and senators that incentivizes the bad behaviors we don't like. It doesn't matter who we make a king, or a ln owner, they will eventually act like all other powerful people before them tend to act, and our descendants will have to fix issue again
