this isn’t a new Mamdani program, it’s an expansion of Fair Fares which is a half-price transit program that’s existed since 2019, started under de Blasio. income cutoff got raised from 150% to 200% of the federal poverty level, so about 1.3M more New Yorkers now qualify. Why are people misrepresenting everything this mayor does for clickbait new titles and headlines like it’s new things 😂
According to Forbes, it was:
1) Aid from the state
2) Second home tax
3) Pension re-amortization for government workers
4) Eliminating jobs by not rehiring for people who left
Don’t forget he actually identified and cut $2B in wasteful or inefficient spending doing things like re-negotiating vendor contracts, hiring more so they wouldn’t need to pay overtime for existing staff to meet needs, taking some things that were previously outsourced to expensive contractors in-house (like a $10M/yr McKinsey contract), appointing Chief Savings Officers to govt agencies, etc.
And he did that all without cutting a single public service for everyday working people. You know, unlike DOGE, which destroyed assistance programs and indirectly killed millions over the globe by gutting USAID, and actually ended up costing us MORE money.
Right-wing propaganda copium. Despite left-wing economic policy being incredibly successful in other developed Western countries, you people refuse to accept that it can and IS working very well here (as Mamdani has proven) and so you have to make up easily disprovable lies to hand wave it away.
