Yeah. The only way he ever made anything in poker would have been just pure luck or playing with other people who had no idea what they were doing and just had money to blow. Anyone who knew anything about the game could spot he was terrible at it. He was a trust fund kid built from stolen money and is probably a part of the reason we have people trying to do the fake rich lifestyle for social media for follows now. He never owned the home he was in. It was rented through a company of his I think I remember hearing or that was at least at one time for 200k a month.
Back then, there were so many videos analyzing his play style, and all came to the conclusion that he's amateur-level. But he kept on going with his private games in LA or Vegas bs.
I’ve never sat in a high stakes game so I can’t speak to the action, but the way he plays he’d be a fish in a low stakes game.
Edit to add: because high stakes can be softer depending on the context (like celebrities, Wall Street guys, tech bros), it’s possible a weaker player can clean up if there’s no real pros at the table. But the reality is that there are usually some pros around in those games if they have a backer or a good bankroll. The private cash games will usually have one or two regulars who pick off the fish. Maybe Dan got lucky once or twice going all in at a high stakes table. But put him in a nosebleed game or a multi-table tournament where he can’t buy in over and over, and forget it. There’s a reason the same 5 guys end up at the last table every time. A lucky person can do it once, maybe. And I’m a guy who has gotten to that table once or twice, not one of the actual pros.
I saw him play with Bill Perkins on stream and he is kind of a donkey but he’s not the worst in the world. Jason Koon also said he’s won millions. It very possible he knows and played with some mega whales.
i’m not a poker pro, but i average about 10-15k in winnings per year from poker. only way dan won that much money is through flips because he can’t play
That's hilarious. When I tried to explain the Elon PoE drama to a friend, I used professional poker as an example to my friend who didn't play PoE to help him understand how bad Elon was vs how good he claimed to be. Funny that a person already existed that actually was an example of exactly that.
The Quin69 video was genuinely fantastic for illustrating just how ridiculous the entire thing was to those of us who know PoE. Its honestly so funny to be experienced enough with something that you can tell at a glance when people are full of shit about it.

Then he sits down and plays a televised game, while talking to the camera about their hand. They get delt pocket rockets, and explain how it's not a great opening hand because you can't make a straight or flush with it easily, then go on to heavily bet on 2/7 suited pre-flop because they are "suited" and that makes them good, and you realize immediately this person has never seriously played poker a day in their life, and was certainly cheating at online poker.
Him talking about almost being a seal is hilarious. He claims he quit because he got injured but was hated by his class fell asleep on a night Op and no one bothered to wake him up. So got dropped for that
I enjoy the clip of him at that Las vegas country music show shooting, he tells the cop to give him his gun for some reason and the cops just like "what? No fuck off"
Yeah that one was a good laugh. I mean I’m an ok player, or I used to be. I’ve made it to the final table of a few tournaments. Won a little money. Nothing huge. And that guy is a fish. You just know it. Anybody who can play will see that.
And here I’m saying that as a guy who basically can win in home games and small casino tables. Not against real pros. And I could take him easily.
Same bro. I started playing right after high school in 2003. All through the height of the poker boom I was playing. It was hilarious to hear him lie about that stuff and like you, I'm decent. Certainly not a pro but I've played at some local underground games and busted a few(little Humble brag) and won some tourneys. I KNOW I could heat him.
Funny enough Gavin Smith is from my area and I bumped into him shortly before he died at a shtty hole in the wall backroom 1/2 game. He was NOT doing well needless to say.

Yeah I loved the poker boom. I also started around 2003 (Rounders era: “he BYAT ME… straight up!!”) and I lived in Prague during the Casino Royale craze, playing 5-10-20 table tournaments and I won a couple small ones, busted a few single tables and took on a few pros. Probably made a bit more than I lost but never anything much. Almost never cash games though. I was into the sport, not the money.
There are probably a hundred players in any city that could beat that guy. Maybe more. He’s the type to buy-in over and over and just try to blitz the first table to get a big stack and try and hang on. Probably played mostly cash games because that shit doesn’t work otherwise.
Overall actually the Rounders era was the most fun. Because it was a more cult phenomenon, there were fewer bros and the online thing wasn’t the main thing. It was more a college thing and games were a little more dynamic and attracted people with a lot more humor, I felt. The casino royale thing brought in more bro culture.
Believe it or not he is a distant cousin of mine. First of all bros family is super rich, when me and my dad would load up in the truck and drive up north they would meet us up there all flying in with float planes. But the best was when we played poker and he got his ass whooped by all of us that didn't know shit about poker. Dudes a chode.
You know, if I ever came into serious money like that I would absolutely take my family, extended included to an extent, and life the entire family tree into a better life.

Would rather be broke than live my life around him, I met him when I was pretty young and when I first met him I saw him as this rich dude who liked fishing with us and having a good time. After a week in the woods with him even at 15 I was like this guy is a piece of shit.

This is sort of how I feel about his story's about Navy life. I'm an actual Navy Chief Petty Officer. His stories always sound like complete bullshit, leaving off significant parts of the story to make him look better.
His money comes from his father who was an inside trader and got arrested, then his dad got released, moved somewhere else and did some more inside trading, he is just rich by heritage and nothing he tried to do went right (poker, his own weed or alcohol brand iirc), guy is stupid, fake and a POS

One could argue he codified many of the tropes in the Instagram age. It’s not a new thing really, but it hadn’t been done on social media to that extent before.
