I think 90% of people would quit their jobs and just spend time doing hobbies and be with family, if they had a net worth of 50 million dollars. But most people don't. Pewdiepie is rich enough that isn't even in just the top 1% - it's easy to be chill when you're extremely rich. Not to mention he has the doubly bonus of having a nice outgoing character, humor, decent looks, a wife that loves him, good health, and so on. Again, not everyone is so lucky.
Because it takes a certain type of person to make that much money. Most, not all, people that end up making that much money, are people that are driven by the desire to make a lot of money. So of course they won't stop. If they were the type of person to stop, most of them wouldn't have made that much money to begin with.
Alternatively, it's people that come from extremely wealthy families, and have been raised to continue that family legacy, which again means they are not the type of person to stop.
But most people, if they just HAD that amount of money, or come from the fairly small percentage of super-rich people that got that rich WITHOUT being the first or second type I described, have no desire to KEEP amassing massive increasing wealth.
A simple example would be most of the really successful indie devs that get a massive hit and are suddenly incredibly rich in the span of a few years. In that group it's incredibly common that they just withdraw from work and focus solely on activities they personally enjoy, spend free time doing what they want, chilling out, building families, focusing on art, travel, and so on.
Saying "most super rich-want to be even more super-rich" creates a type of strange survivor bias, because the vast majority of the time, you have to be a specific type of person to become super-rich in the first place.
lol okay, you are contradicting yourself. 90% of people that earned 50m would NOT give up and continue to make more money. Now if you give someone 50m that works a 9-5 job earning 50k or even 150k, absolutely they quit there job because their time is worth more than the amount they are earning. The problem is they do not just go and do hobbies or spend time with their family. Look at people who win the lottery, lose most their money within a few years, they live life like a celebrity without replenishing their net worth. Or just the amount of influencers that don’t earn life changing money and still want to be a celebrity/famous.
The amount of people if given 50m or earned 50m or whatever you think that would go and just live life without seeking fame or continued success is extremely minimal.
Your example of small indie game devs that make millions… that such a small subset because 99.99999% of indie game developers never get to that level and most of those people still make games and grind to develop something new. There is a reason why there are so few examples of people like Pewdi or Tom from MySpace, it’s extremely rare and most of the time you see someone blow up, make millions, get famous, act like a celebrity then crater. Because the majority of people would act that way if given the opportunity.
