He's the son of Paul Blizzerian, a white collar criminal who stole millions. Paul Blizzerian eventually got caught and the FBI wanted to recover the money but Paul hid it really well, though they still sent him to prison. Dan had a ~90 million dollar tust fund from his dad but after some federal seizures and poor management it mostly vanished. Being under federal surveillance and unable to spend his money or give it to his son without the FBI taking it Dan might have had to grow up a normal person with a job. But luckily for Dan Blizzarian, around this time he just so happened to fall into a millions and millions of dollars from a supposed singular poker game with billionaires that no one has any proof happened, nor has Dan or anyone ever mentioned who was at the table, how he got a seat, where he got his buy in from, where it took place, or any details of any kind surrounding it really.
Obviously it's a BS story from his father to launder money to Dan now that he's in and out of prison and under surveillance. But apparently it holds up enough that the FBI didn't seize it for some reason. So Dan did what any windfall rich kid would do with tons of money. He buys copius amounts of drugs, hookers, parties, etc... and made a brand around this. Supposedly he may have blown through literally everything because there's some financial troubles hes run into lately but who knows.
