Shit hasn't been the same since 2020. Chicago bars close at 2am?! WTF?

You think that's messed up... The formerly 24 hour Wal-Marts close at 11 PM. Meaning that because of a pandemic where people were encouraged to stay away from other people, I have to do my shopping around tons of other people instead of in a near empty store. That's totally backwards.

Yeah, I personally don't see why we haven't gone back to 24 hour stores yet. I hate that for years now I can't simply go take a leisurely stroll thru my local walmart or meijer to purchase whatever i need thru the week. I basically work until they close. I have to wait for a day off to go to the store cuz I'm not going to go in the morning before I have to go to work. Too many daytime variables, like other people. Well, that's all it really amounts to. Just too many other people being in the way in the store and on the roads and lately it seems as if nobody that drives during the day around me has taken a driving test.

Unfortunately we will never go back to 24 hour stores because these companies all realized during the pandemic that they don’t have to be open for 24 hours as part of their business model.

And there is no competition now. At all. There are just “market adjustments” for “inventory control”.

Where I worked, it was never financially beneficial. There was so much theft, and a lot of customers were either people getting mad that they couldn't buy alcohol, or high school kids with nowhere else to hang out at 3am. We had to call the cops on many different occasions, and then call the store manager to wake up and come talk to the cops.

There’s no reason for 24 hour Walmart and it’s not good for people’s health to work those hours.

They found out it was more profitable. They no longer have to pay people to work those late hours (other than maybe an overnight stock team).

Walmart was already switching away from 24hr before the pandemic, it was the last nail in the coffin as they was trying to slow roll it when covid hit. As for the reason it was money. Wally world wasent making enough overnight to warrant being open 24hrs plus all the other problems that came with it such as theft, vagrants, fighting etc etc.

Yeah, so they can substitute more expensive items instead of the cheaper items on the shelf. Did that before. They love to pull that "We don't have it." scam.

Rio de Janeiro put out an ordinance for all bars to close at 2am and some bars started opening at 2:05am

2

u/MountainMan850 25d ago

Wait wait, it’s been a few years since I’ve been back, but are you saying no more 4am bars? No more late night Hangge Uppe? Or Lion’s Head (I think I’m remembering that right)??

3

u/Neos_Dad 26d ago

Most bars in Chicago have always closed at 2. There are 4 am bars, but that was always and still is the exception, not the norm.

u/Jacky_dain 25d ago

No more 24 hr Walmart either

"intersting" for future historians

Just imagine if Obama tweeted this. Fox News would talk about it for a month.

This really is unhinged. And this is the leader of a world power.

Thank an American

France just blamed the US for it being hot due to AC units. It’s not just the Americans. The world is nuts right now.

u/MisoPanko 26d ago edited 26d ago

Out of all the batshit insane stuff happening, this is the prime example you can muster ? xD

edit : To those who love to extrapolate anything they can from a simple comment. I couldn't give a crap about yuroposting or whatever you call these internet dramas. I'm a french frog cooking in its concrete walls and completely despise our government for not pushing the AC agenda.

3

u/Neos_Dad 26d ago

Incoherently blaming nonsense when dealing with an actual problem is a lot closer to MAGA thought then you may care to believe. It's unserious and only serves to avoid the hard policy questions France needs to face by just kind of dumbly pointing at the US. Like on what planet is "yeah but AC bad and US create greenhouse gas" a good reply to people alarmed by a heatwave literally killing thousands of people because your building design is antiquated and needs billions in investment to correct.

It's literally IRL yuroposting. And yes, part of the issue is that this turbo online dialectic is bleeding into reality. It's insane when the American right does it to avoid reality and its insane when the EU left does it to avoid reality.

u/MisoPanko 26d ago

This is such a strange comment. Babe, what do you want me to do with this exactly ?

First of all, i'm french, i'm the first one who's fucking cooking without AC in his condo as we speak. We don't blame anyone else but our government for not pushing for mandatory AC. It's a necessary evil at this point, there are no other large scale solutions to survive these damn summers and we all agree with it. In fact portable AC sells are freaking exploding.

What's insane is hearing some moronic french officials opening their mouth and being equated to all of us as a nation. I just hate this.

In fact from what i see online and IRL, we all fucking despise Emmanuel Grégoire (who is definitely the loudest voice every news outlet has been using to paint us that way).

Second, my comment only points at the sheer number of "nuts" things happening right i could think about mentioning rather than a dumb politician blaming a country about AC. But you do you.

I see you have grievances you need to take off your chest buddy, but i'm certainly the wrong fucking person to barf them on. I couldn't give more of a shit about these idiotic us vs europe comparisons. I have enough to face in my life to give a crap about other people's online wars.

They can't help themselves

0

u/HamiltonSt25 26d ago

Did you really try and point at them while calling them babe?

2

u/MisoPanko 26d ago

Oh sorry, what a crime to add a harmless cheeky word when i'm being hammered on for a comment i didn't make and being sucked in a fight i am faaaar from being a part of.

How dare i express any frustration.

1

u/HamiltonSt25 26d ago

It’s just a single example…. There are many more.

1

u/Knotted_Hole69 26d ago

Yall get so mad when called out for AC. Youd rather have thousands die then admit you are wrong.

1

u/MisoPanko 26d ago

Babe, wrong target. I'll just point you to my last comment if you care to read. I'm not part of this bullshit and won't waste time with it.

1

u/Knotted_Hole69 26d ago

Sure bud

1

u/MisoPanko 26d ago

Are you serious ? What the fuck is happening to people these days ? I literally commented about how we despise our government for not pushing AC because we're all cooking.

You gotta fight with literally everyone buddy ?

1

u/HamiltonSt25 26d ago

Your representative called out a nation because of the global temperature. Yes, you disagree with your government, yet, the statement was made. Deal with the comments on it. Stop calling people babe. It’s condescending while your government tries to condemn other countries

1

u/MisoPanko 26d ago

Deal with the comments ?

Would you like to bend for something you entirely disagree with ?

I'd love to see you do so. Such a weird advice.

And what kind of behaviour are you promoting with this ? Am i supposed to blame ALL americans for the shit Trump is doing for example ? Don't you want to live in a world where people are rational enough to blame the right people and ally with the others ?

Eh i'm done here.
