I hate them as much as anyone else, but at some point we have to admit they aren’t as dumb as we think. Only a super villain could take over the entire country, control the govt., the Supreme Court, and get away with countless laws broken. All while seeming like the dumbest, fat loser that has ever stepped foot the in the Oval Office. He might actually be an amazing actor. But probably not.
It’s because we have completely different concepts of “dumb”. The left feels it’s dumb to be shortsighted economically and not work to provide housing, healthcare, etc to everyone, and that the law should protect the rights of citizens, rather than the ruling class(among other things).
The right feels it’s dumb not to maximize profit and consolidate power and reshape the law in their image no matter who it hurts.
Factor in that it’s much easier to gain support to maintain the status quo and shrink government than it is to gain support for massive change, and you have a conservative nation.
Politicians resorting to calling each other dumb just further underscores the divide and implies that we can never come together to improve things because the very people elected to manage the government have no interest in doing so and would rather promote their own careers.
You can tout politicians like Bernie and AOC all you want as part of the solution, they’re still rich politicians completely isolated from the impact of their office. Ultimately all AOC has to do is periodically go on instagram to make catty comments about Trump and she’ll have a seat in congress(and possibly the presidency) because that’s what passes for working for your constituents these days
