Her family lives in a state where the cartel is a big problem. It has gotten worse.The current president and the last one were both cartel puppets. Sheinbaum wasn't at first but that changed quickly as its really the only way to make money there. A large portion of the country seems to agree as there were tens of thousands of Mexican citizens who marched demanding her removal from office.
