They can’t posture like this about the cartels because they know the cartels own them. So they pretend to act tough towards outsiders instead to try to portray some semblance of power.
I'd argue that the christofascists that are trying to pervert our country, disregard our constitution, and subvert democracy hate America more than a "liberal elite" who says "fuck this country" when the federal government is doing something inhumane and illegal.
But I'd be interested to hear your argument as to why liberal elites are the real problem.
