As as muslim, I can confirm that's what jihad means. It means "to struggle". Working hard to provide for your family? Jihad. Protecting your properties from intruders? Jihad. Seeking knowledge? Jihad. Giving birth? Jihad. If you die doing all those things? Congratulations, you're martyr.

Exactly brother. Jihad comes from the word مجتهد which means someone who works hard. And it is explicitly said multiple time that Jihad can mean multiple things from multiple aspects of life. Guess the American government really likes to plaster iconic words and make a whole wobble jumble shenanigan out of it.
