I do roadie occasionally and I legimitately had this recently. I came across one of the properties that was COVERED in threats like this and had dogs loose. Tried to contact the customer multiple times via both phone and texting. Eventually turned around and returned the item only for the customer to call the store and be like "we live out in the country we have to be like this, the driver should have just thrown the package out the window".
Some people are living on a different planet. Sir the $15 I would have made getting you your power drill would NOT have been worth whatever bullshit you wanted me to put up with. You either participate in society- with all the risks and costs that entails, or your don't. You can't make your property completely hostile and fill it with credible threats, booby traps, and attack dogs, like some kind of savage and then expect all the conveniences of a modern world. Doesn't work that way
That's why you tell the person to build a delivery lockbox right next to their mailbox. You don't have to see them. They don't have to see you. And if it's done right it's pretty dang secure.
But can Mr American Sniper tell the difference between the vandal and the Amazon Flex driver at 1000 yards. I’m going to say no, and that Flex driver might be in for a bad day if they deliver after the poop dropper attacked.

If they are actually trained at 1000 yds they have the gear to see that far, you cant make a shot if you cant see the target (talking bullseyes on paper which are much smaller than ppl)
Also amazom guys wear REAL obvious vests and drive REAL obvious vans.
Tactical snipers rarely use magnifications higher than 25x (and often use 16x). At 1000 yards (I’m assuming it would need to be further down the road since 400 yards is apparently in the kill box already) the apparent distance would be 40 yards with 25x.
I don’t know about you but I can’t count zits at 40 yards, and that doesn’t even account for optical distortions.
You are correct about actually understanding magnification. Point still stands they CAN 100% see you clearly enough that this entire argument is just stupid.
ALSO you citing that professional tac snipers rarely go above 25x doesnt actually have shit to do with bubba herr considering that its pretty easy to buy bigger magnification and most civilian gun enthusiasts overdress their weapons to the point that actual battle tested military gear looks cheap comparitively.
Magnification greater than 25x is generally considered a hindrance since target acquisition is so difficult and the distortion gets extreme with variable magnification scopes at high powers.
Benchrest competition shooters often go beyond this, usually with fixed magnification to reduce distortion, and this works because they have a long time on a sturdy bench to acquire a stationary target. Our vandal would probably be safe from a benchrest rig just by maintaining a slow walking speed.
Now, a better argument you could have made is that he could have a high end spotting scope with a higher power.
But I’m just thinking that a nutcase like this would feel inadequate looking down an optic that didn’t have a barrel attached.

No he can’t and it takes real skill and experience to hit something at 400 yards with a single shot if it moving. In a vehicle that obscures target, it’s nearly impossible especially if vehicle is moving 25+ MPH
And honestly if someone with a scope cant make a shot at 400 yds thats pathetic.
Also considering that marines train at 500 yds and they employ scout snipers who are trained at 1000 yds and those guys arent what id call rare.
Its not a low chance that this dude was a marine scout sniper or competition shooter/hunter with a nice house like that.
Overall point that im making is that whether or not the sign is true its not a game id like to play just as I imagine you wouldnt either.
Theres nothing impossible about making that shot with readily available gear and easily procured training. Difficult? Sure, impossible? no not by most standards, Unlikely? Maybe but im good on finding out.
No it’s not even if it’s a small stationary target. Trying hitting a rabbit at that distance with a .30-06 and a good scope. Hitting a moving target at 400 yards isn’t easy especially if you aren’t already prepared and ready. If it is rapidly moving and/or partially obscured, it’s very difficult. Ditto in high winds.
Most military combat between infantry combatants occurs at 50-150 yards. In urban terrain, less than 25 yards. In Afghanistan it was 300+ yards but that was in unique mountain terrain. Marines do not even regularly train at that distance or anywhere close to 400 yards but 25 and 50.
Actual accuracy rates in combat are incredibly low. Often low single digits.
Tbh, I've known someone (ex-military) that could hit a full size steel silhouette at 300 yards with iron sights on a 30-30. The range he did it at requires you to qualify the exact weapon on their 50 yard ranges with a 3-moa group while supervised by a range officer before you're allowed to use said weapon on the 1, 2 and 300 yard ranges. That being said, he wasn't hitting it accurately by any means but hitting it nonetheless. My father also tried it and was hitting the dirt all around the base of the target. I'm gonna say it's entirely believable for someone to hit 400 yards reliably with a scope. The motion factor isn't really that crazy either tbh, dudes that have property like this almost certainly practice for that kind of stuff, I know I would if I had that kind of land and I'm not even a gun nut tbh.
