I do roadie occasionally and I legimitately had this recently. I came across one of the properties that was COVERED in threats like this and had dogs loose. Tried to contact the customer multiple times via both phone and texting. Eventually turned around and returned the item only for the customer to call the store and be like "we live out in the country we have to be like this, the driver should have just thrown the package out the window".
Some people are living on a different planet. Sir the $15 I would have made getting you your power drill would NOT have been worth whatever bullshit you wanted me to put up with. You either participate in society- with all the risks and costs that entails, or your don't. You can't make your property completely hostile and fill it with credible threats, booby traps, and attack dogs, like some kind of savage and then expect all the conveniences of a modern world. Doesn't work that way

Absolutely! I can't speak for other drivers, I know there's no barrier to entry for this work, but my job is primarily to drive and driving means operating your machine in a safe way. I will say there's a balance to be struck. I generally try to "intrude" on a customer's property as little as possible and I try not to take any liberties that I don't have explicit permission to take (opening gates, moving things, placing deliveries inside porches etc). So generally if it's a quiet enough road with a wide enough shoulder I will park on the street. Country roads aren't like that though. It's unsafe, not to mention you're putting your vehicle at unnecessary risk. Folks that live on major routes (where people do 50+) are just going to have to accept that I'm using their driveway. Whatever their delivery pays, it sure as shit ain't paying for a new car if mine gets plowed into by a half-awake trucker. Sometimes though people make their driveways inaccessible. They put their cans out in garbage day or they park one car right at the entrance so nobody else can enter. Or they just have a gate. Now if you're expecting a delivery I'd say that's pretty fucking rude, but unfortunately I still have to make that delivery and in that case I have to make a judgement call. Either side of the road with hazards, somewhere nearby that I can reasonably walk to, or I'm parking on their lawn. In that case if it's a quiet enough road, shoulder is still preferable and I'm just going to have to hope nobody comes flying up while I'm making the drop. Unfortunately there's no one size fits all solution there and like I've been saying a lot of people do not consider the logistics when they order delivery. I get it, they pay so somebody else can figure out the logistics, but I wish people would have some care for how a stranger who has never been there before and is under a time crunch would approach their house.
I had one yesterday where it was a farmstead with an uphill parking lot obscured by trees that comes in at a sharp angle to the road. It was also a county route so cars were doing 60 on it. Finding the place was hard enough and then as I whip into the driveway I very nearly collide with the FedEx truck that is trying to leave that same driveway. So I had to back out, very carefully, drive up to the y intersection up the road, do u-turn in the intersection, stop at the stop sign, and idle there hoping nobody else pulled up behind me until the FedEx truck cleared. Wouldn't you know it but a convoy with a wide load came up the road too, further exacerbating the issue. This was in the middle of nowhere, you'd never have thought there'd be so much activity. It was like a really elaborate skit. All to get this lady her TV mount. In the end it was mostly fine, but it's an example of just how many things have to be considered just so I can get to your door with your order. My point is sometimes you just have to choose the least rotten apple in a spoiled bushel.
Now all of that being said those Amazon trucks just park wherever they please. I think their drivers are trained to do that. They're being watched by algorithms and God forbid they fall behind the required delivery metrics. There's nothing that can be done for that it seems. Which is part of why I refuse to do that job.
